Okay so I still have time (like a lot of time) to decide what I’d like to major in, what college, etc. but I know I’d truly love to go to med school. However, I know how fierce the competition for that is and want a realistic backup in case. I have been thinking about a double major in BioMedical Engineering and Pre-Med but from what I’ve heard the workload for both is a lot. Would I be able to do it in 4 years and still manage a high GPA without wanting to drop out of school?
Premed is a set of conditions required to enter medical school, NOT a major. You can do both. In fact, I’d imagine that there is a decent amount of over-lap between the requirements to med school and a BME major. Pre-med requirements typically include calculus, gen chem, ochem, bio, physics, and stats at a bare minimum. I am not in engineering, but I am sure that most of these classes are required for BME.
BME is one of the more common majors for pre-meds these days. You might have one or two additional courses to take but probably not more than that to satisfy the admission requirements.
Most entry level positions for bme is bachelor’s degree.
