I barely have C in my Cal 3 class and I don't see it going up because

this prof. I have just.. can't teach ****.. anyways..so I'm thinking about dropping it with W..

The problem is I have 13units this semester and if I drop that class it will be 8 units total..

That's not a full time student.. will that affect my admission for this coming fall semester to UC?

Also, if I drop it.. I should let UCs know that I got W.. how do I do that?and will it also affect my admission??

I applied to UCB, UCLA, UCSD, UCD, and UCI..

what frustrate me the most is that I'm an econ major and I'm taking stupid Cal3 just because for pre-req for UCSD..
This doesn't motivate me any way..

So again my question is.. Will dropping Cal 3 with W affect my admission to UCB,UCLA,and UCSD?

Oh yeah I also signed TAG with UCSD saying I'll take Cal 3 on spring semester...

I wouldn’t recommend you to drop the course. Just do your best, pass the course (even with a C) and stay above 3.0 GPA, you will be fine, I think.

Forming a study group might help too…

they don’t care that your not a full time student. But will you have 60 units if you drop it? You may have a harder time getting into UCSD but i don’t think the other colleges will care.

yes, I’ll have exactly 60 units even if I drop Cal 3 class… I don’t know what I should do… what do you mean by I may have harder time getting into UCSD,but not other UCs?

I’m taking calc 3 right now also. I have a TAG with UCSC as an econ major for the fall. From talking with a UCSC counselor last fall, they are much more concerned with a failing grade than a W. According to that counselor, getting a failing grade after your TAG is approved will pretty much eliminate your chance for acceptance. The major problem with taking a W in that particular class is that it is a prereq for the required upper division econ sequence. You would need to take it in the summer at your CC, or at UCSD before starting that sequence.

I should stress that this is only based on a conversation with a counselor from a different UC than you’re planning to attend, so it may not be accurate to your situation.

Hope that helps.

Your application to UCSD will be weaker because that course is a pre-req for that college. If they see you dropped it, your application won’t be as strong, and if they already accepted you but learn that you dropped it, your admission might even be revoked especially if its a competitive year.

But I wouldn’t worry as plenty of people don’t even finish the calc 3 pre-req and still get in there. Other UCs won’t care because calc 3 isn’t a pre-req or anything for your major. As you still have 60 units, it won’t even matter. I would just drop it, maybe at the W date and be better prepared for Calc 3 next time.
