Thinking about dropping out

I'm currently in an accounting internship at the accounting department my school and it's solidified the fact that accounting isn't for me. I don't know what I thought it'd be like but keeping track of so much detail and numbers is not something I enjoy. I'd rather work with people than with data all day. So, now I'm in a predicament. I'm going to be finishing my Business Administration degree (which by itself is useless) in less than 2 months. However, I don't know if I should because I'm going to be changing majors to something else (what that is right now, I don't know, possibly IT or psychology). Is there any point in graduating if my major is not going to get me a job and none of the classes I'm taking right now will transfer into my future major? I just feel so unmotivated. I'm an excellent student and I love college but right now I just don't want to be there right now if none of my current classes are going to transfer. The last to day to drop is next week so I have to figure something quickly. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

You are two months away from your degree. Finish it!

Look at it like this. You quit. And you still have to wait until the next semester to start a new degree.

@hikaru12, go talk to a counselor at your school. What makes you think a Business degree is useless? There is only a very small percentage of business students that DO connect with accounting. That is very normal. There are so many areas in the business world for the “people persons” like yourself - Sales, advertising, IT, consulting and management to name a few.

For some reason, I think because of the listed starting salaries, a lot of students think they want to major in accounting. When they get through a few accounting classes, usually only those very detail-oriented, number people stay in accounting.

I went to business school many years ago graduating with a focus in marketing. Despised anything accounting. Hired by one of the then big 6 IT consulting firms, where they teach you what you need in IT in their own training programs. They hire kids who can present themselves well, think on their feet and speak and present eloquently and are willing to make and learn from mistakes, and have a killer work ethic.

I’m sure things have changed, but prob not that much. Finish your business degree and talk to counselors about interviewing for your first job. Work on your interview skills. Finish strong with a vision towards the future. NOT in accounting! (Note that IT and Psychology are all part of the business world, but you don’t need another degree to gravitate towards those areas.)

A Business Degree IS NOT worthless, no degree is. Just pain through it for 2 months and get a masters in your desired subject.

and honestly unless you’re at phd level, psychology is way less useful than business. A masters in business gives you more money then one in psyche .

as for IT, its basically the same thing as business with a little comp sci on top.

so basically finish your degree than go for a masters in something you like.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I definitely feel more motivated to keep going.
