Thinking About the Way Ahead

Since this Coronavirus thing has taken effect on college life, with classes going online only, events getting cancelled, etc, my anxiety and overall mental health have both dramatically declined. To be perfectly honest, at this point, I wouldn’t be surprised if I got an email from my college saying that the remainder of the semester is officially cancelled. If that happens, I might consider dropping out altogether because with my current financial situation, I can’t afford one more semester of college. On the other hand, even if that doesn’t happen, I might consider taking a leave of absence to try and get my mental health back under control. Now the long pole in the tent is that I’m a senior, set to graduate this May, and I’m in the middle of a very important final project.

So, what do I do?

Reach out to your college counseling. It is possible that they are finding ways to operate virtually or by telephone. Also, if you have a counselor at home, reach out to them as well.

I don’t believe that any college has just outright cancelled this semester. Care is being taken to keep seniors on track and graduate. I believe you will have resources available to support you finishing your journey, it just might take a little while. Reach out. College staff are still working.
