I am currently a freshman at Bentley University. Last year when I applied to schools, I knew i wanted to be in Boston. I got in to Northeastern, Bentley, Babson and BU. I accidentally messed up my financial aid application for BU, so i did not recieve any. I eliminated Babson, so that left Bentley and Northeastern. Bentley gave me more financial aid so i decided to come here even though Northeastern was my favorite of all the schools i visited. Now that i’m here, i realize that there is not much social life in Waltham and I really want to be in the city. What would be the ups and downs for transferring to BU or Northeastern? I am unsure what I want to do after college, but I plan to go to grad school and I think want to work in management or with real estate when I graduate. Any and all input is appreciated.

gotta consider school size…(BU and NE are huge compared to Bentley)…this could be a pro or con based on your interests

city life, to me, is annoying but maybe you are different…gotta think about that, especially BU.

social life tends to be bland for many freshman, especially guys, just try to network and meet new ppl.

you dont seem too confident about being in business, that could be a reason to leave bentley since it is a total biz school. bu and ne offer much more in terms of areas of study.

oh, how is the workload at Bentley?

are you finding the business classes stimulating and meaningful?

The workload is very manageable. I want to do internships and work in Boston. Bentley is about a half hour away from Boston.

The classes are rather meaningful and are all centered around business. Every class is more learning about business than the actual subject. I don’t know if that is good or bad. I do enjoy business, though.

I know the Waltham to Boston route. You can’t do an internship from Waltham?

BU has practically no campus. Big difference, as previously stated. NE has worked hard to beautify their campus with more green space. Usually, one finds the social life. It won’t find you.

Can I ask why you eliminated Babson? Curious as I see so many postings about one v the other and S2 is applying.

OK so if you transfer to BU or Northeastern you are basically putting yourself into a field of ten thousand plus, and you’ve yet to learn to be a standout. Bentley has great connections to the greater Boston business community. No offense, but you if you’re going into sales / real estate, you’ll have to be proactive in advocating for yourself in terms of business or social skills. What did you do this past summer? Bentley can assist with endless opportunities to gain meaningful experience towards your education. Do you need to be in Boston to figure this out? Not really. Since you’re probably not 21 yet, there isn’t much for you to do living in Boston that you cannot do from the relative safety of the Waltham campus as a home base. Most Bentley students do their homework (aka before winter break!!) to find summer occupation and have great success. Join some clubs, do some networking, get a campus job and meet some people. Be patient and expect more of yourself. You create your college experience, not vice versa.
