Thinking about Transferring

Hi everyone! I currently attend Bentley College, a business school. I have always thought that I wanted to do business but the more and more I explore my interests I am finding that I am much more interested in political science, law, and journalism. I know that these subjects are very lacking at the school I am at now, so I am thinking about transfering to a university that has opportunities for me in these areas.

This is a list of schools I have been thinking about:
Yale
Harvard
Boston College
University of Pennsylvania
Georgetown
University of Rochester
University of Michigan

Do you guys have any other suggestions for me and is this an appropriate list?

I will give you a quick summary of my stats.

High School
GPA: 95 UW
I took 7 AP classes
Rank: my school didn't rank
SAT: 740M 640CR 600W Total: 1980
ACT: 31
SAT II: Chem 710 US History 740 Math II 690
Extracurriculars: tennis, matheletes, quiz bowl, national honor society, literary magazine, research on hydroponics

College (I'm still in my first semester)
GPA: 3.7-4.0 (somewhere in that range)
Extracurriculars:
Literary Society - Vice President of Public Relations
College Democrats - Director of Communications (have canvassed and phone banked for local candidates for office among other things)
Pulse Newspaper - Editor and Layout Design
Vanguard Newspaper - Layout/Production (i am running for Production Manager)
Debate Society - Intra-School Liason
Model UN - Middle School Conference Director of General Affairs

Also I am involved in the Academic Integrity Council (syllabus committee), the Law Club (i am running for Events Coordinator), Colleges Against Cancer, Green Society (newsletter committee) and Relay for Life (survivorship committee).

bump, any help or suggestions would be great. or should i move this to another forum?

You need more credits before you can really tell. The more credits you complete and the highest GPA you maintain with that the better the college will look upon you. Also, if you do more credits, they look at your high school record less and less.

Thanks Glexia, do you have any suggestions for my specific list of colleges?

Your list is very reach-y. The highest transfer acceptance rates, I believe, are UMich (around 38%) and then a couple in the high 20% ranges.

If you definitely want to leave Bentley for a full A&S university, you will want a couple of safer schools on the list.

You certainly might get accepted to some of your reaches, but the chances are slim (for you or for any applicant).

Good luck.

thanks Andale, im not 100 percent sure that I am transferring so I’ll think about which schools some more.
