Thinking of applying...

Hi, I was wondering if someone who goes to u.michigan would be able to tell me about the diversity there. I heard minority applications decrease every year and that's not too encouraging. Is it pretty much everyone hangs out w/ everyone else or are different groups seperated?

Michigan is relatively diverse...but it is not as diverse as some schools in California. As for how well integrated the students of various races are? It depends. For the most part, I feel that Michigan still has a lot of room to improve in that regard. But according to a recent survey, Michigan was considered one of the top 25 universities for URMs, so clearly, Michigan does a decent job.

Applications from underrepresented minorities went down last year (they went down in ALL groups) but this year have shown a strong rebound. Whoever told you they go down every year is mixed up or has bad info, so I'm glad you're asking other people about it.

I agree with alexandre, the question isn't "how many minorities" but "are those minorities a full part of university life"
