Thinking of choosing Cornell over Upenn because people say non-wharton is a joke?

Happy passover to folks in some of the above threads!

To the op–What does your uncle teach? Often professor’s in LA majors or those in the non-professional majors look down on the pre-professional majors. Since Wharton gets a lot of attention and is pre-professional, I imagine it gets a lot of scorn and jealousy. The professors at Wharton are probably paid a lot more than others.

So depending on what your uncle teaches, treat it with skepticism. Both Cornell and Penn are great schools.

Yea, I don’t even know why I used to be so obsessed with Penn…

jimten, for some reason i don’t believe you considering you said you go to swarthmore in this thread and amherst in another…

Easy choice: Cornell.

Cornell’s science and engineering programs are famous worldwide. Upenn had a good run because Wharton was so much better than other undergraduate business programs but now that investment banking has fallen Upenn’s credibility will hurt. I guess it’s what you plan on doing but it seems like people are shifting back to science, engineering or medicine. I got into Penn, Cornell, and was waitlisted at Yale. I will obviously choose Yale IF i get off the list but as for now its CORNELL BABY!

^and yale probably sucks the most of the three for sciences, which is a good indication of how much you know…I wonder if Cornell students will deny the notion that Cornell science is more competitive than Penn’s?

Competitive for what? Getting a good grade?

Yeah, all of Cornell’s students like getting good grades. Therefore most of us study hard in order to get those grades.

If you are trying to imply that students in the sciences are cut throat, you are blatantly wrong.

Seriously, stop it. You’re embarrassing yourself. Also, work on the English syntax a bit…

I meant “do not”
I was not typing with a keyboard at that time, lol.

Okay, for science, chem-neuroscience…if you also want to study languages, history, drama, which school covers all of this great stuff best:

Penn, Cornell, Dartmouth, Brown, Stanford, Amherst, Wesleyan, Tufts…

or free rides at U of R or Vandy???

quillshrink: Um… first of all, those are some ridiculously awesome choices.
Second of all, Stanford is the most prestigious and definitely one of the strongest contenders. But I have no idea about each of those schools’ history and drama departments so I can’t realy give you a good opinion.

I’d say Wesleyan and Tufts are out, though.

^^Wesleyan’s pretty good across the board.

I got into MIT Cornell and Upenn to study biology, pre med. I know people have said a lot on the subject, generally agreeing that Cornell is superior in the sciences. However, I was accepted into upenn as a Vagelos scholar and a Ben Franklin scholar, do you think the hard work put into these programs are more prestigious/ better preparing than a cornell education? Or is cornell still a better choice for a bio premed undergrad?

*mit offered me no fin aid, so factor in 200k in loans for them, generally making it overridden by the other two imo.

I think it should come down to fit, personally. Do you want to live in a city or a small collegetown in Upstate, NY?

And I wouldn’t be surprised if MIT didn’t match the aid packages, if you asked.

ArichJoe, I am also under the impression that MIT has very poor med school acceptance rates as compared to other top schools BUT I MAY BE WRONG (dont flame please). I remember reading an article that said that MIT had the worst acceptance stats of all of the top 25 schools (IE less accepted students, they had a better average GPA/MCAT than their peers etc).

I heard at penn previews that vag scholars get the BEST opportunities for interships ever. IMO that’s really not worth turning down for cornell

^ vag scholars lol

Haha, Vag scholars. Yeah mit is stingy, but penn seems worth it. But still Cornell was so nice, I felt so at home. It’s a tough choice!

vag scholars get tons of perks. It’s if you get into the vag program, it’s very difficult to decide not to go into vag. My friends who were in it got REALLY into it and are glad they came, to Penn.
