I've been assigned to Third North for next year, but I'm having a really hard time finding information about it. If anyone could answer ANY of my questions it would be an enormous help!

-Does anyone have any pictures? I've seen the ones on WSN and that wiki page but those are the only ones I've been able to find and they don't show too much

-Are the rooms really as small as they look? Not that it's a huge issue they just look really tiny compared to the other dorms and I was wondering if they were all that way or if there is some variety.

-What material are the floors? Weird question but just so I know whether to buy a rug haha

-I heard they were doing a renovation this summer, does anyone know anything about that and what it means for next year?

-How is the dining hall?

Thanks SO much everyone for reading this and hopefully if you've lived in 3N or know someone who has you might be able to help! Thanks again!

the rooms for the most part are of pretty ample size. My room in Hayden 2 years ago, and Gramercy last year, were both about the same size as all of the 3N dorms. I knew 3N pretty well cause my gf was an RA there, so I ended up sleeping there a lot.

The floors are laminate, so yea, get a good rug.

I didnt hear about a renovation, but if there is, it would only be for one of the towers, as it is the only one to not be recently renovated.

Dining hall is solid. Not great, but does the trick if you arent picky. Also, they pick up after you! haha. Also, since it is pretty far away, it is mostly 3N and Founders kids.

Also, I lived in 3N last year. I have to say, it was my favorite of all the dorms (and not just because I lived there!). For one, all apartments have a kitchenette. For another, it’s the biggest Freshman dorm in the country — there are lots of people to be met and there is always something going on. There’s an awesome game room in the basement and rumors of a pool on the roof. Our dining hall is THE BEST, no question, of all the NYU dining halls and our dining staff is AWESOME. They will give you stuff for free if they like you. ;-)

If you smoke, there’s a little area outside the 11th street entrance that’s always lively with people having a cig or coming in drunk from a night out. I met so many people the first week just from hanging outside the 11th street entrance.

3N is also right in the heart of the East Village. There are a million restaurants around. You can walk two feet in any direction and find somewhere grand to eat. Also, St Mark’s Place is two blocks south, and it’s SO FUN at nighttime. :-)

PM me for any specific questions. I’d love to help!

Oh, and the dorms are NOT small at all. They’re like little apartments – you usually have two bedrooms with a pair of twin beds, a nice window, and two desks. A big common area, a little kitchen, and a decent bathroom. Some rooms are HUGE, and others are more modest. But all of them are very livable and a good size.

^Hey guys I’m rooming in Third North as well next year as a freshmen, and as excited as I am, I want to make sure I don’t get written up for stupid crap.

Do you think I could get away with bringing a large size hookah ( 4 feet) and smoking it occasionally in my bedroom? What about a virtually smell free vaporizer? If an RA finds the vaporizer but not the wand, can I still get in trouble for that?

My parents were wondering if there are 2 closets per room and if theres a way we can padlock the closets (otherwise we will have to bring a safe).

Room assignments came out today and D has what I think is the second floor of the south tower room 204-A (Ts-0204A-2). We have looked hi and lo for a floor plan of the dorm and can’t find anything. Can anyone who has lived at Third North confirm what I have surmised and tell us about that location, ie south tower, second floor or room 204? Thanks a million.
