Almost no one has an idea of what banking even is, let alone the lifestyle or the skills required to succeed in it. Every single thread has multiple HIGH SCHOOL and underclassmen college kids blabbing away like they know something. This board is beyond repair so let me just say that if you want to know the answer to your questions then please reach out to some alums and ask the real bankers. You should also consider asking your career advisor and counselor if you are at a target as they've dealt with this many times before.

Peace out board, for good.

With every board there is going to be some quality and plenty of garbage - it is both the nature and the beauty of internet forums. It is your job as the questioner to take the answers that are legit and separate them from those that are fluff, garbage, or spoken without any proof/knowledge/experience. There are plenty of people on here who have never seen a 70-slide pitch, never worked on a 15-tab model, and have never read through a 150 pg offering memo primarily for spelling and capitalization mistakes - which is fine, since it takes a full board to make a successful board. The key, again, is to make sure that the feedback you are taking seriously is that of bankers/traders/consultants/etc depending on your question.

While I know that someone will say, “well how do I know who is whom?” The answer: you don’t, always, at least. That’s why you have to read through the posts, read through the answers and find where the majority of opinions fall, perhaps ask someone who is a banker for their insight via a PM or some such thing.

Just because someone has finally landed a job in IB does not, by the way, make them an expert on all things IB. In fact, many of the questions that I answer are from those former students that have broken in but want to switch groups, can’t get along with someone, wants better experience, can’t figure something out, has to cope with the new life, etc and etc. I am sorry for the rant, and I will end it at that, but I just wanted to defend a board that people utilize for answers. Yes there are idiots, and yes there are people that speak as if they had experience and actually have nothing - it is what it is - take some of the responses with a grain of salt (or less) and find the quality responders (those with experience and insight) and seek advice from them. Good luck to everyone and congratulations “AcceptedAlready” - job well done indeed, especially in this market.

I don’t even remember you ever posting here… but anyway… what are you expecting? It’s a site primarily targeted at High School Seniors and underclassmen in college. There are definitely a few people on here that are knowledgeable and help out. If people want another sample, they should also go to WSO.

You’re going to find pretenders everywhere, but I think for the most part people have done an OK job at disagreeing if they find something out of place.

This is the last place to get sound career advice. Its too easy to manipulate and distort information, sending future/present competition on a tail chase.

I can just imagine AcceptedAlready on some forum for VC/PE/HF prospects acting like the equivalent of a HIGH SCHOOL/ underclassmen college kid here.
better this info than no info.
and it could get worse… just go check out the med school board.
