"I have never seen so many overqualified people getting rejected and waitlisted in my entire 26 years of doing this"

I couldn't agree more. This has been such an arbitrary and haphazard year for college admissions. People are getting crushed, everyone's applying to the same schools...

One example: UCLA's 47,000 for 4500 or so spots...

Wait until our kids apply to schools...

Yeah, it is a very scary trend. Lot of people just graduating from college claim that schools that were matches are now reaches for them.

Nevertheless, problems necessitate reform, and I'm sure something more will be done to a. Increase the number of college-bound students (get more funding to enlargen schools, add more colleges) and more importantly b. Have another criterion for admission (perhaps a test administered by an individual college...this would be a good way to differentiate between people with the same GPA from different schools.)

Anyway, I'm just glad that it's over, and let's hope the college gods are smiling on all of us the next couple of days.

Yeah, definitely it's been crazy. I feel bad for so many people who I thought would easily get into schools but ended up getting rejected. At the same time, I feel so fortunate to get into one of my reach schools!
