This does not make sense

I’m sorry, but I can’t control my anger any longer…WAITLISTED FROM BU…

I got into a school 30 ranks better, and I get waitlisted from BU, a school I actually want to go to…my friend also got waitlisted…WTH!

Idk what to do, should I call??

you should send them a letter of appeal. make sure they know that you CARE that you didn’t get in. i’d call your regional adcom rep and talk to them personally…you’ll have a better chance of getting taken off the waitlist if you can get your rep to vouch for you to the rest of the adcom.

I am not sure about calling policies to schools, I will check up on that.

At least you got your decision…I still have to wait AND am probably gonna get waitlisted/rejected.

Vitare I hope you get your decision soon and are accepted, good luck xgreatescapex, I hope you are accepted.

…I’m entirely speechless and I just wished this made sense.

Relax, this was a tough admissions year. Colleges are doing a lot of weird/gay stuff to protect yield, etc so you never really know what will happen.

Sigh. I feel you greatescape. I was waitlisted as well. It was also my #1 choice and while my stats weren’t as great as yours, they were similar. I don’t understand it either. Good luck to the both of us!

Anyone know how the waitlist process works? It says its not ranked so how do they decide who gets in and who doesn’t? It also says its a short list. Could anyone define "short? lol thanks a bunch

I didn’t get waitlisted but I’m totally confused at the college process this year. I’ve gotten accepted places that were reaches and rejected at some safeties. I don’t know, man. Good luck!

I’m ****ed. I thought BU was a match for me. I got rejected from BC, and I assume I got rejected from NYU, and then I get waitlisted from BU. I don’t think I’m going to be able to afford it without the FA anyway… But I thought I was a match. I screwed myself over.

St. John’s was my fallback, and that’s where I’ll probably be heading now. It’s just disappointing to try so ahrd the past four years and be told you’re not good enough.

Yeah, screw BU, another one of my classmates got in and she has stats significantly lower than mine (1700 SAT, 87 avg)…for a lack of a better expression, EFF BU!

Welcome to Tufts Syndrome.

greatescape: What were your stats?

My stats weren’t great, but I think my GPA was 3.6-3.7 unweighted. The thing was that I had a junior year that brought down my rank and GPA. I was slightly out of the top 10%, and now I’m up to about the top 7%. I wish I could flip my junior and senior years.

I’m not mad at the school, at all for waitlisting me. They have to make some tough decisions. I’m upset with myself because I keep thinking “I should have tried harder in this, studied an extra hour”, despite knowing I busted my ass the past four years. I didn’t get into the prestigious university I wanted, but I consider St. John’s an excellent fallback.

And to those also rejected/waitlisted: Are you going to allow this to get you down, or are you going to use it as a tool to motivate you in the future? Success isn’t determined where you go to school, necessarily, but what you do once you get that degree.

true true, but it’s saddening to get a waitlist from bu, cause i’ve been rejected from CMU and i really need to count my options now…

^ :frowning: You can come cry with me. BU has totally absorbed my entire life and it got ripped away. I was kind of foolish thinking I even had a chance.

Waitlisted also, lol. I was kind of surprised, but I’ll get over it.

i’m mad too…got into a school 30 ranks better. and waitlisted from bu. i’m def going to smack someone. i WANT to go too.

omg, I can’t believe you didn’t get in! :frowning: I’m sorry, ***, I agree with you guys, college admissions is crazee this year! I got in but I applied straight to CGS, but my SAT was 1650, 3.7 gpa, and top 7%…That’s nothing compared to you guys…but then again I’ve been doing programs at BU since I was in middle school…so maybe that played a factor, in addition to the fact that I’m Black Caribbean, and that I have 3 pages worth of EC’s and Comm. Service/ I started my own non-profit organization and wrote grants that were all awarded to another non-profit organization…and the list goes on, so that’s probably why I got in. This really shows that scores isn’t that big a deal…damn. You’ll get over this! I promise! When I got rejected from BC & Amherst, which I did foresee, I just said SCREW them, so I know how you guys are feeling!!! I think I’m going to Bryn Mawr b/c they gave me the greatest FA package I can EVER get, so hopefully one of you guys on the wait list can go to BU :)

I’ve never considered myself to be a fatalist, but I guess some things aren’t meant to be…point in case:
I was flat-out rejected from BU with a 97.14/100 GPA, 800 Critical Reading 650 Math 800 Writing SAT Score, 750 Literature Subject Test and 780 US History Subject Test scores, 5’s on both my AP English Language and AP US History tests last year, and great extracurriculars/recommendations/essays.

I have to admit, I was quite surprised at the decision…but I’ve got a pretty awesome financial aid package from a school with notoriously bad financial aid (Emerson College) and PLENTY of opportunities to pursue my artistic passions there.

So the moral of this story is: don’t fret too much if you’ve been waitlisted/rejected. It could be that the school had certain quotas to fill, just didn’t think you fit with what they had to offer…the list of possible reasons is endless. Make BU wish they had you as an alumnus. Go on and be great at one of the other awesome schools you’ve been accepted to…I wish you all the best of luck wherever you go!
