I was going over my bill for college since the date is coming up to make sure all the balance has been paid. Anyways, I was looking at the charges and saw that I was charged TWICE for my fall room.

Basically I was charged for my fall room the first time on 7/11/11. Then I was given a credit of $2.902.00 on 7/19/11 with the description "FALL RM CH"

On 7/21/11, I was charged for FALL RM CH again, this time for $2,896.50

Now if I'm not mistaken, "credit" means money that helps me not money I owe. After adding the charges all together and subtracting it from the money I add paying for it, it shows i still owe $265.13, despite having two FALL RM CH charges. So instead of having a refund of $2,000 +, I owe money.

I'm not misinterpreting this am I? I should have only been charged once for room...right?

It is certainly worth asking why there are two different amounts, but you aren’t being charged twice.

The first charge (presumable for $2902) is effectively reversed by the credit for $2902, leaving you, at that moment with a balance of zero, having not been charged for the room at all. The next charge, in the amount of $2896.50 would appear to be the real charge.

Think of it this way:
2902.00 - 2902.00 + 2896.50 = 2896.50. Perhaps the original amount entered in was incorrect, or the fees lowered a little bit, or you were in a different room than originally charged.

The bigger question is why you thought you were owed $2K?

(And good for you for actually looking carefully at your charges and credits – if there ever is a problem, figuring it out in a timely manner is a great idea.)
