"this essay is good but you don't talk about yourself enough"

Is anyone else facing this problem?

No matter what I write, peer-editors tell me that it's not revealing enough of my personality. I think that I show my personality through my writing style and my interests, but apparently I haven't been talking about myself enough.

My counterargument is that if I interpret the prompt in a certain way and answer it accordingly, the essay is representative of my personality, if only in the sense that I replied to the question too impersonally.

My parents, for the record, really like these essays, and they know me best. :/

Hmm.

You like them.

Your parents like them.

What is the problem?

Have you had strangers/people who don't know you too well read it for you? You have to remember that the adcom will be a stranger.

I'll read it for you if you like.
