Actually, when I read the forums, I think of it as my "relaxation" and "veg time."

As far as decals go, I have felt pretty badly these past four years. D1 (who graduated college this past May)'s college decal is on all of our cars. D2 who is a senior in college.....well, we bought the decal at the reception day for accepted students but the decal from her school (which has cost us plenty!) is a weird kind that doesn't stick on the outside of the window but goes inside the window using static. Problem is, with tinted rear windows, it can't be seen and so her college decal is not on any of our cars and is still sitting on the counter in the house. D1 is now in grad school and that decal is on all our cars. If you didn't know us, you'd think we favored D1 but the problem is D2's college decals don't work right!!

Nobody's making you read it. We have fun here and learn a lot. Many of us were once young and "all-knowing", like you are. Fortunately we now know better and have gained a little humility. You might want to try it.

This is a great decal thread. We, too put our D's decal inside our tinted windows where no one could see it. Then S's school gave us an outside decal. Well, we felt guilty looking at it when we couldn't see D's, so we bought an outside one for her ($6!!). I put it on and then realized it is completely covered by the rear wiper when the wiper's in the off position.

So, I actually bought another one and repositioned it. That's how I spent September.

I don't intend to start any big confrontation, but do you really think it proper to call out this one individual for his or her lack of "humility" in a thread full of discussion about decals? Aka "showing-off" stickers?

Nope, yawn, no inconsistency at all and perfectly proper. I remember when I was twenty and thought I knew it all. I was clueless about so much. And, at 48, and an attorney for almost 25 years, I still am. Not tooting my own horn at all, but don't you get it? The true sign of intelligence is realizing how much you DON'T know and how much you can learn by opening your mind and listening to others, like the great people who contribute to the Parents forum. The "old ones" here with the decal issues are writing tongue in cheek. It's hysterically funny when someone posts and tells us parents that we shouldn't be here. Can you show me where it says we're not allowed to post? Didn't think so. :) These "Parents go Home" threads are pretty predictable. They usually happen about three times a year, along with the bi-annual "Greeks are evil" threads that usually correspond with fall and spring rush.

Quite a few implications drawn from thin air here. I readily acknowledge that acknowledgment of how much more "truth" there is than is possible for any one individual to know is a proper measurement of intelligence (or rather, wisdom). Secondly, I'm not telling you that you shouldn't be here. I'm just advocating the "practice what you preach" principle in regards to parading humility while simultaneously actually posting decal stickers on your automobile.

I don't mind Parents go Home threads--BUT ON OUR OWN FORUM?!! That's cheeky!

Kids come and kids go, but some of the parents have been on here for a long time (multiple kids) and have a lot of wisdom and experience (college related and otherwise) to share.

Frankly, I don't think that having license plate holders or sticker decals to be the sign of someone who lacks humility. It merely states, "I'm affiliated with HHH." If you think that merely being affiliated with HHH gives you higher status than others who are affiliated with YYY, then that is a humility problem.

The only problem with your argument is that I haven't posted about putting decals on my car windows or bumper.

And my implications are drawn from the thin Rocky Mountain air, and from years of experience. I've got the wrinkles to prove it. And I welcome YOU here anytime as well. Thanks for not telling us to go away.

Why waste time with regular ol' decals when we have numerous bigger-scale news-sharing tools, developed by highly serious followers of the Right Path, over on the Meta Thread?

I actually like seeing reading threads in this forum. Allows me to look through a different window. I actually like how there is [somewhat of a] clash between ideologies. Some parents try to justify their son's enrollment at the local CC and others ride their kids until they have a 101 average.

I gotta admit I'm feeling pretty out of the loop; I just never got into car decals. And both my kids go to the same college, so I'd only have ONE decal to apply anyhow.

I think we have totally spun off, way out of orbit here. I'm still wondering which college my HS junior son should attend in order to get the coolest decal.

Do the Nobel laureates at Berkeley have a decal that identifies them as laureates for on-campus parking? On the one hand, that would be really cool. On the other hand, if I was a laureate, I think I would feel a little self-conscious driving around with a decal announcing that I'd won a Nobel. Do you think they can get license plate frames? That might be harder, since you'd need to be able to fit license plates from around the world. How about sweatshirts?

I also wonder if the laureate's parents get a bumper sticker that says "My child was named a Nobel Laureate in Physics by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences" or something similar for each discipline.

(For the benefit of any earnest student visitors: I am not honestly contemplating putting such a sticker on my car. Nor am I contemplating how to arrange my child's life so that they can be named a nobel laureate.)

DadofB&G...the problem is for D2 school is that they only seem to have the static cling decals that go inside the window which are really no good. Now that she has only one semester left, maybe next time I'm at her school, I should check out the bookstore to see if they have finallly wised up to get car decals that go on the outside of the window like D1's schools. I feel badly that we drive around with an affilation with only one of our kid's schools.

I see the decals like a school sweatshirt...a sense of spirit about one's school.

Aah, sarcasm and humor are wasted on the young...

I'm well aware that the talk regarding decals in this thread has been made with humor and sarcasm in mind. But that doesn't change the fact that many parents do, indeed, put these decals on their cars. Please, spare me the presumptuous arrogance.
