I’ve been hearing a lot about the importance of GPA for Penn. I have a 3.5uw GPA, but a 3.94 weighted. The weird thing is that I have A’s in all my AP Classes, and I’ve taken 9 AP classes and self studied for one AP test. My test scores aren’t steller, but I got a 32 ACT (35R, 33E, 33M, 27S, and 11E). I’m also AP Scholar with Distinction. I guess you could say i’m a bit on the lazy side. I’m just motivated to try harder in classes I like, which is why I have all A’s in my AP Classes. My junior year grades were messed up a bit, since I had two horrible teachers, one that was fired at the end of the year. I recieved my first ever C’s that year, which considerably dropped my GPA. I’ve also taken a few college courses. I’m just curious as to how Penn will look at my GPA. I know GPA is mostly a measure of work ethic, so will they just glance at my low gpa and reject me or will they look at the courses I took, and the way I challenged myself? Oh and my ap scores were Bio 5 USH 5 Euro 4 Wh 3 English Lang 3. I’m taking AP lit, AP US gov, AP Chem, AP Calc AB, AP Psych right now.

GPA was definitely more important than any other aspect on your app. I think I was deferred from Wharton ED solely based on GPA.. I screwed up my junior year too with two B's.. and I'm only in the top ten percent. They reallllly care about how you stand in comparison to the rest of your grades. Oh and I took the most challenging courses too.. with eight APs total.

I don't know about your chances, but I can say that I regret not working harder. Everything else I had: SATs, extracurriculars, leadership, personality, recs were golden. =/

well is top 5% good for a school like Penn when you are at a competitive school with at least 350 kids??
