This is bad... REALLY BAD

Ok, so far I’m applying to:

UCSD
UCB
UCD
UCI
UCSB
UCSC

And I’m an ELC student - my grades from freshman to junior year was 4.0 but my grades drop recently to a 3.57 due to many stupid mistakes in AP classes. Would my chances drop from entering to these schools? My first choice is actually UCD , so would they somehow rejected me even though I’m guaranteed in, as an ELC student?

UCSD, UCB and UCSC do not offer guaranteed admission to ELC students. Your senior year grade drop would only impact your admission chances if you are asked for your mid-year grades. Once accepted, each campus will give you specific conditions for your acceptance. A 3.0 or higher with no grade lower than a “C” is generally what you will have to achieve.

For your guaranteed campuses; UCD, UCI and UCSB, having a 3.57 will not affect your ELC status. To complete ELC eligibility, you must complete all A-G courses, complete your testing (SAT or ACT plus two SAT subject tests), and graduate from high school.

Thank you so much!
But how come UCSanta Cruz is not a guaranteed school for ELC? Its admission rate is even higher than UCD!!

UCSC just isn’t a UC guarantee school. (UC makes da’ rules.) Of course, I would guess that UCSC accepts 95+% of all ELC applicants.

If UC Davis is your first choice, why are you applying to five others? your elc guarantee does not go away after you have already received your letter unless you get a D or F in any of your classes.

^Well Davis was my number 1 choice for the longest time. I applied to the same places besides Berkeley, got into all of them and I ended up picking San Diego in the end once I visited the campuses.

Is it fine if you recieve a C in an AP Calculus course for the first semester? Does the UC look at it as a B ince it’s an Ap course?

^oh really? They do?

Stanley, it depends on how many AP’s you have taken. If you have not reached the 8 point cap for additional AP/IB/honors classes, (Basically 4 year long APs) then the C would get the extra point, If you have already reached the cap then a C is a C. However one C shouldn’t affect you if you keep your GPA up your Sr. year. Most UC’s have a certain overall GPA they want you to maintain your Sr. year.

nah, 3.57 is cool. you’ll be fine. I actually regretted trying so hard in my senior year: I got 4.67 gpa twice but for naught.

Oh, however, you have to make sure to maintain a 3.0 unweighted to not be rescinded by Berkeley or UCLA.

You need to maintain a 3.0 weighted for the rest of the UCs.
