I was talking to my friend and I asked him what he would change if he could go back and do his applications all over again.
He told me that when he was writing his essays, he (like most of us) used the same essay for a couple of different colleges. In this certain essay, he mentions the name of the college four times. So when submitting it for a different college, he has to go back and change the name all four times to make the essay perfect for the other college.
Here’s the catch…he only remembered to change the name THREE times on one of the essays, so the essay he submitted to the University of Michigan ends like this:
“…and for all of these reasons i believe that the University of Pennsylvania would be a good fit for me.”

Yeah, I was constantly warned with stories like those when I was writing my essays.

I myself was pretty fortunate though: out of my ten schools, EIGHT accepted the common app, and the few that had supplements didn't require very strenous time or effort to complete them. The two schools that didn't take common app had pretty much completely different questions and essay requirements, so there was no chance of me mixing those up.

Best wishes to your friend about Mich... :)

On one of my UC essays I said somethink like "I wil keep my involvement in the Surfrider Foundation, whether it's in the San Diego Chapter, the South Bay Chapter, the Santa Barbara Chapter, or the Newport Chapter." I guess that's not really bad, but I did list them from my top choice (UCSD) down to UCI, and I definitely don't want to attend UCI. Hmm, I guess they didn't realize it since UCSD rejectected me and everyone else accepted me.

hehe, maybe colleges dont really read essays... you know, just a roll of the dice. or maybe they thouhgt it was funny... who knows? that's pretty sweet that he got accepted, though. where will he be attending?
