On my college applications, I self reported my gpa as a 3.9 My actual gpa on my transcript was a 3.891. Will this have a negative effect for my college decisions?
No. It is appropriate to round up and report to one decimal-so that is correct…
Some may disagree. To avoid such people getting a negative impression if they review your application, report GPA exactly as shown on your school records* so that it matches exactly when verified.
This also applies to writing GPA on a resume when applying to jobs.
*Exception: if the GPA asked for is clearly different from what the school records show, e.g. unweighted versus weighted by some method. In this case, you may have to recalculate.
You SHOULD report the GPA exactly how it appears on your transcript. That said, it is highly unlikely that a .009 rounding up will move the needle on a college acceptance.
Agree - generally GPAs are NOT rounded up, no matter how close they are. No idea why this is, but it does seem to be the standard in academia. That said, I don’t think it is going to make or break your admission chances. They’ll likely just assume that you didn’t know that was the standard.
I’m not sure but I don’t think so, since it’s not that big of a difference.
It’s nothing. Self reported is compared and adjusted with actual when received. It is not so glaring as to represent something larger.
