Not the song offcourse !!Here is a list of the stuff i would be writing in my apps.

Now that i now that my SAT scores are much much less than the bottom 25th percentile of all competitive colleges,I desperately want to cover the scores up with other things.I wanted an opinion whether the things i have mentioned can substitute my low SAT scores.Or in other words do the things look impressive enough?

im an indian too. yeah. anyway im from calcutta. your ECs seem impressive. however the sats could be geared up a bit.

you should do fine in other colleges, but MIT and other ivies… well cant say anything. they are very unpredictable.

@akash the thing is my preboards will be starting next month and i wont be able to take the SAT’s again.Infact the score of 2050 was my second attempt, the first one being a 1950.Always busy with competitions and academics i could never really prepare for the SAT’s.
Anyways i have to apply with these scores only.Plus I am looking for financial aid(>90%).So it is either the top colleges or nothing. The SAT score was like a… bolt from the blue.Presently having lost all my hopes for the big places ,I am considering applying to State univ’s which offer aid.

@akash are u also applying this year? And yes Calcutta is say a eight hours journey by train from my place.

Since you have done actual research, your low SAT gets easily outweighed. I think that if you write great essays about your interests (which you are highly accomplished in) and get a recommendation from the prof you did research with, you are a shoo-in. From what I have heard good colleges accept students with SAT 2000-2100 if they have great ECs which you have. Good luck for the admissions process. BTW how were your Subject tests?

no man im not applying this year. im grade 11. next year for me:D

karan is applying this year though(i think karan wont kill me for spilling out this info :D)

btw in what topics are you researching. tell me so that it helps me too. i have never heard of anyone researching while in high school.

nope i won’t. spill whatever you like. try to find me on fb and post my url here. it would be great. I just wanna know how soon can I be found out.

are you trying to be sarcastic again or really mad?

if the correct option is the 1st one then you are pathetic at being sarcastic.

if its the 2nd one then…well im sorry

i have a nagging feeling that the correct option is the 1st one :D

no i am not being sarcastic. bahh i would roll eyes if i wanted to be sarcastic. i don’t care much about privacy on the net. :D

you mean that the correct option is none!!!
you are not even mad at me?
thats not what i expected(not that i wanted you to be mad at me)

nope you made up the wrong options…wait this is going off topic so i’ll stop the discussion here.

ok. anythink more to talk about? :D

@akash and karan i basically did this research thing for KVPY.In my place which has a big steel plant flyash is a common problem. And so i started of researching the reusability of these wastes and then contacted this prof at NIT,RKL.He assigned me a work which i diligently carried over in two consecutive summers.I dealt with how these wastes can be used as reinforcements for polymer composites. This is quite simple, atleast as compared to the work of our counterparts in other parts of the world.

can you suggest something for me to do in calcutta? it seems theres nothing for me to do here. people here are fools thinking that high school students have nothing better to do than just mugging up books. :(

@karan i am pathetic with the subjects even.
i got a 790 in phy,780 in maths -2,and 750 in chem.

oh your scores are fine. your ECs will cover that up. answer me plz.

@akash i recently had been to a national level fair which selected 10 students to represent India at ISEF 2012.And i can tell you with conviction that ppl from calcutta are doing awesome research work. Some have even tested their products at institutes in Calcutta. The best i can say you is look up a problem,do some background research regarding it and then contact a person working in that field. The person will then take it from there.

ok thanks ill try. anyway can you help me convince my parents that i really can do something if i went abroad. they seem to think that it would be useless not to go join iit and go elsewhere. what the hell. i just dont get their point. especially mum. she wants to cuddle me forever in her arms. what is this. i need to grow up. i need to know the world. ive tried to convince them but they wont listen. guess ive to give it another try.

@mitboundmeche: Sounds good, did you get published? If not, try to get it published now.
@akashdip: The best you can do right now is look for some internship, or do some kind of research.
