This Is My Thread!

Not copying off of Prepkid which I agree to her theory of asians and disney. But I also have a problem with african americans and disney with "The Proud Family" such characters like suga mama....... what is that we can't give are grandmothers names such as granny or grandma why does it have to suga mama, and why is it that there are what I like to call "Hoochie Mama's" on the show such as the girl with blonde hair thats black, speaks as if she does not know english, everything is "you, be, I,is" It's sick. people like jonathan k. might say black ppl are easily offended or irascible to this type of topic and we should be, this is a show that should be put off the air but it has many viewers......
why? because kids watch it to see a black family that can hardly speak, everything is so ignorant. And I am offended by the show because it is degrading to my race. Just as prepkid made her thread about asians and disney I am making mine pertaining to blacks.

I never watched the Proud Family, I also thought it was stupid. Which is why I love That's so Raven. It portrays blacks in a terrific positive fashon that people of every race can relate to. (Plus I'm a fan of Chelsea).

I don't think Disney has much to do with race other than picking up a show. These shows were made, and pitched to various companies, and Disney just happens to pick most of them up - other than financing and promoting the show, they don't really deal with it too much.

But besides The Proud Family, I don't believe I've seen another show on Disney that portrayed blacks negatively. If I recall, they even made the movie The Color of Friendship, about a wealthy black family meeting a white african girl. There was no negativity in that movie. Or in the other movie they made Selma Lord Selma, also about blacks during the civil rights' movement.

But disney doesn't have to putt them on air.

havent watched that one...

It's a great movie. You definitely should. It won a lot of emmys too.

Yeah I've never seen that........... don't want to.

Somebody1--bravo to you (for your original post)!

I hate it when they show bad language, bad morals, & all sorts of low behavior, and justify it by saying "Well, that's black culture." If I were black I would be embarrassed and protesting mightily. Every culture has its lowlifes but you don't have to be proud of them. It's just an excuse for the networks to cater to the lowest common denominator. They don't care what they portray as long as it makes money and unfortunately people will watch anything.

That's one of the reasons we don't really watch TV at our house. There's very little we care to see.

if you recall, on this show called 'naturally sadie', i thought disney was attempting to do the same thing it did to american dragon jake long thing. the main character, a white girl, has one african-american friend and one greek friend, and has a crush on an african-american guy. but then lately it feels as if the show's leaning towards the character falling for this blonde, blue-eyed guy.

Unfortunately, that is what society connects blacks too. One genius in CC Cafe even went as far to say that blacks don't live in the suburbs. Foolishness.

Yeah, I was shocked by that, I'm not sure why though.
But the black guy was hot, so I don't blame her, :D

In one episode of That's so Raven, Raven falls for a white guy too.

please, raven falls for every guy. she falls for African-American (DEVON!), white, mexican, latino...:p

Also kids that are of 5 or 6 or older may think the average black family actually acts like the proud family. And that is sickening!

^ i know. that's what i'm worried about asians, too. just imagine little white kids thinking asians turn into dragons!!

Yeah I agree exactly but I think they will think all asians are in martial arts or eat nothing but noodles. :( Thats pathetic!

you knw, when i was at this homeschooling event these two african-american girls (one in kinder and one about 2nd grade) said i looked like tessa from movie surfers. the thing is, i don't look ANYTHING like her.

is it true that for some people everyone of one race looks the same? i actually felt all whites looked the same and that all african-americans looked the same until i actually came to america. :p

Yep, Prepkid, I'm pretty sure my Psychology teacher said it's a lot easier to identify someone from your own race than someone from a different one. That's why there's so much controversy in cases where eyewitnesses think they have identified the perpitrator, but because they can't adequately distinguish between faces of the different race, they'll have identified the wrong person.

The term "African-American" is racist everyone.

geeze, justinian. is 'asian-american' racist, too? i prefer being called that way rather than a chink or something like that.

well, what you say does contain a bit of a point, though. not all blacks are decendents of Africans. some are from places like cuba or jamaica.

I was being sarcastic, Prepkid.

jeeeeeeeeeze. everyone knows to put sarcasm sign on every note of sarcasm you mean...

saracsm
