##!! This Is Nuts!! ##

From UW Application Status

International Freshman applicants are notified by May 1

-- ARE THEY CRAZY?
I'm sorry, but I really must complain! Does anyone else find this to be absolutely insane? Most univ's enrollment free/deposit deadline is May 1 and UW lets us know by May 1? I know its their first year doing hollistic review, but come on! It's like we're risking everything for UW! What if I don't reply the other universities and end up rejected by UW. now THAT would be unfortunate wouldnt it.

Wow that must feel bad. I suggest calling them up and telling you this, because it would not just hurt you, it will definately hurt a lot others.

They can't gaurantee ANYONE a response before May 1. I'm heartbroken because I really would love to go to UW but it's just too late... if I don't get a response, like, this week, I'm just going to have to say yes to my next choice. I can't keep putting it off, or I'll be last in line for housing, classes, etc.. I know I should have applied sooner but still. Every other school in America sends out replies April 1 at the latest. (maybe not EVERY school, but I don't know anyone still waiting on a response from anywhere but UW). It really just sucks. They should have hired more reviewers or something.

Me too. I find this date completely insane. I mean, other colleges want us to enroll by May 1st.. no time to decide by then!

can you not send in your two hundred deposit or whatever and then just eat it later if you want to really go to U DUB

Right, if you don't hear from UDup before May 1, you should send in your deposit to your #2 school. You can switch to UDup later on if you are admitted. All you lose is your deposit to the #2 school. It's fair as you are basically 'waitlisted' at UDup if you don't hear before May 1.

how much are deposits for in state kids?
for international, its like $10,000+ !! so i dont think it would work for internationals to "lose your deposit to the #2 school" eh?

Read your admission package again. The deposit you need to put down to confirm your attendance is usually around two to three hundred dollars. Part of that goes for your orientation. It's not refundable though. You may want to put down a deposit for the residence hall (usually a couple hundred or less) but you can get it back.

Yeah... new student fee was $250 and deposit for dorms was $300.

10g's sounds outrageously high

many hundred dollars is still pretty expensive considering it not going towards anything if we don't attend.

hey, the 300 dollar deposit for the dorms is refundable though!
