This is pretty complex...please try to evavluvate my chances

it would help if your ACT was 2-3 points higher

lylbeachbabee, why do you think that northwestern is still a reach. i mean i have outstanding indian academics and im really working to get a decent GPA. it should be like a 4.0ish. im taking all APS senior year. any ideas what i can do to improve now, taking the ACT is out of the question as its wayy to late. any suggestions, moving from india to the usa is something pretty big. dont you think the academic committee will take something into consideration when they analyze me.

fearless, your academic credentials seem legit but pretty much all the schools you are applying to reaches...heck, they are reaches for everybody. It's all a crap shoot, so you never really know. You could get into alot of them, you could get rejected by all- thats college admissions for you.

Also, if you feel that moving from india to the us is a significant experience that has affected you in a way, then write about it in an essay...thats definetly a good way for admissions people to get to know you.

Best of luck to you!

I would have to say you have very little chance at Northwestern, and especially the combined program. Your math I and II scores are low for any top school. You might have gotten a pass on verbal if you had excellent math scores. Then add in a bad term and no special ECs.

HYPS and any top 15 school is pretty unrealistic. You are competing in the Indian/Asian pool against kids with much better stats. Kids still in India with much higher verbal scores.

It's also hard to believe anyone can do a quality job on 25 apps. Just the "why this school" question, if done well, requires a lot of research.

Focus on schools you have a clear shot at and some reasonable reaches.

thanks for your comments.
suze, in india people took normal math (uptil say algebra 2) till the end of 10th grade. then in 11 th grade you would end up distributing into the different streams from engineering (more into math like say calculus) and medicine (more bio and chem and physics etc). my science and social studies background is well rounded but math was not as well developed. i got the SAT subject test scores without taking any chemistry or high math classes.
as far as kids in india go, i havent seen very many with scores even in the higher 600s. i doubt people do as well...the level of english in india is much much lower as compared to that of the usa.
and does all of that research stuff not count even a bit "special." in the first year i got all that experience and was able to complete all that research ( a total of 3 researches if you also count the research prep class)
ive worked pretty hard on all the applications and ive given them the best i could do.

Oh Another Important Thing: India Does Not Have A Gpa......
This Is My Gpa Only From The Junior Year And First Quarter Of Senior Year. Indian Grades Were In The Higher 80s Low 90s Which Is Considered Pretty Good According To The Developed Scale.

In response to your last post, fearles756. I am familiar with the indian system. The international applicants from India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh are top notch. They have really high SAT Math scores and pretty good english scores also.
The schools you are applying to are reaches. Prestige is not everything. I know your parents may tell you that but it really doesn't matter where you go for premed. Just get a good GPA and good E/C during college and you will be in the same pool as the kids who go to HYPS and get the same GPA and have the same E/C. You will also have to factor in MCAT scores.
Your research stuff is pretty generic considering the top notch applicants the other schools get. Your GPA is kinda low also.
I would advise you to apply to only apply to two or (at most) three reaches. It seems you like northwestern. Do your research. Go to the website and read up about the school, the program you are interested in, etc. Also try visiting the northwestern forum here and reading posts rather than just posting a thread with your questions.
As other posters said, it is quite had to do a good job with 25 applications. The most I would do is 5.
And for the 8 year med programs your chances are kinda slim. I think you may have a decent shot at Kentucky but the rest are really high reaches.

If you read this board you will see the phenomenal number of Indian candidates with stellar scores. Those applying as internationals and Americans. They are an overrepresented minority at most all top schools. You will also see that many, many candidates have done research for years. They have won Intel and been published in science journals.

Read around this site to understand the reality. Your stats are not just slightly off for top colleges, they are off by a big margin for an unhooked candidate.

And sristi is correct, it makes little difference where you go undergrad if you're headed to med school.

The avg SAT for the NU BA/MD is a near perfect, and the avg clas rank is top 1%, and those people have some great med related ECs. The avg SAT for NU undergrad was 1402 last year, with an avg class rank of top 5%. I think it is a reach. And colleges really will not be lenient when it comes to reasons for subpar stats. As others have said, there are too many people in your situation with better stats.

It does make little difference where you go to undergrad if you want to go to med school. However, if you want to go to a top med school, the majority of students there come from top undergrad schools, interpret that how you wish.

thanks guys.
sristi can you tell me as much as you know about the University of Kentucky medical program, more about average scores and other things. do you really think i have a decent chance? i just wanted to know more about the program. i really couldnt care less about the prestige if its a combined medical program. also, do you know something i could do to get in: another research, some winter leadership course or anything. as far as northwestern goes, with the same stats and maybe spectaular essays ( a firend of mine just got accepted to northwestern journalism, ill use his help) do you think i have a decent shot?
thanks a lot

fearless756--I know little about that program except that it is considerably easier to get into. If you want stats just go to their website instead of asking us questions.

the website just has general information, its always my first lookout
does anyone have any ideas about the University of Kentucky combined BA/MS program.
any help would be appreciated
