Hey guys. Well, I'll try to lay this out as simply as possible. While I have the GPA, ECs, recs, college classes, etc. that are up to Princeton's standards, my SATs and SATIIs are definitely not up to par. So I ruled out applying all together because I knew I didn't have a shot. I just found this site and registered, and after seeing all of the other applicant's SAT scores, I'm pretty sure there's no hope for me ;).

So here's where my question comes in. About a week ago, Princeton sent me an app. packet with one of those letters "urging" me to apply after being notified of my SAT scores from CollegeBoard, etc. The only reason I could think of as to why they sent me that is because I'm a definite mut when it comes to my heritage, and on my first PSAT, I checked off Hispanic (I'm part, among many other things) under the optional ethnicity question. But from then on, I just skipped the question because I didn't see a need in supplying them with my ethnicity, including on the college apps. I've sent in. (Plus at my school, I hate hearing, "So-and-so only got into this school because she's 1/8 Colombian," and stuff. I just wanted to leave it blank.)

But I guess I'm still on some list of minority students somewhere? I really don't know..

I go to a pretty famous performing arts school in NYC, if that could help any.

But yeah. I really don't know if I should apply. I'm thinking of applying just to see, but I'm almost SURE I'll get rejected. Any input? Want me to supply you guys with my stats to see?

Just the act of sending you an app does not signify anything. You should not acquire app-complexes simply because of your SAT scores. If you love P'ton, apply there anyways! I do not have good SAT scores, but I applied ED anyways. As far as your school goes, are you attending LaGuardia? (I am from NYC too)

Haha yeaah, I knew it didn't. Every school sends apps. but since I love Princeton so much, I was trying to think of a reason for them. :p

I actually go to Professional Performing Arts School, which is in midtown. It's a lot smaller and just..different I guess? Slimmer acceptance rate and they let kids go on location/do professional work, which LaG doesn't. It's a great place.

Anyway, thanks for the reply. :) I do love Princeton, so we'll see. And good luck with your ED decision!

lolol, that's what they say poisonivy, my art teacher (who've been here for give or take 15 yrs) have said that princeton have been trying to improve their fine arts department (still part of Art History) for 10 yrs and they still don't have a BFA program, that tells you how much they are committed to arts when almost all the other ivies have bfa programs :(

Wow, I didn't know about their non-existant BFA program. Not that I'm planning on getting my BFA but yeah, it would make sense that they want to improve their arts department. I'll DEFINITELY fill out that supplement now. I didn't know if it would be worth it (especially since I have to have it in by Dec. 19th) but considering I already have monologues I can videotape (I just need to polish them up..) and a teacher who'd write me a great rec..why not? Haha. I told my parents to leave me alone one afternoon so I can tape myself ;). I can never act in front of my family.

Anyway, thanks for all the input guys! I'm going to apply for sure now. I have nothing to lose, besides the app. fee. My dad said that when my letter of rejection comes, it'll be a card that opens up and laughs at me LOL. My family's so supportive ;).

they definitely are trying to admit more perf. arts students under Rapleye...I have seen a couple theater performances on campus, and they were AMAZING! they have a lot af accomplished student actors

No I'm a dancer as well! I've been dancing for 12 years actually :D. And judging from your username, you are too! Hehe.

I haven't been able to take classes since the summer (between college classes and everything else after school) and I'm dying to get into a studio and dance. Well, I've been dancing once a week but it's so not enough for me LOL. I'm used to about 5 classes a week. I'm a Drama major in school and I dance outside of school. I'm probably a better dancer than I am an actor, haha, so I'd love to go to Princeton and take a class..

DowJones...While you are certainly correct in your assessment of Princeton's Art Dept my post never suggested studying art.

I was only pointing out how they are looking for a great mix on campus and having a talent whether it be in music, dance or in my son's case illustration will help to set an applicant apart for admission.

It should be pointed out Princeton is home to one of the best Art History departments on the planet and probably the best Art Museum of any university on this side of the pond.

A few of the readers will "go to bat" for an artsy application as some of them were art majors.

nopoisonivy, you are certainly correct, pton's museum is probably ranked right up there with Yale and Harvard's (perhaps a little lower) but certainly pretty spiffy unless you consider the NYC as Columbia's museum :D
and you are right in saying that they don't have a fine arts major but anyways, is your son a good artist? any works? :D
gauging competition is always good :P (j/K)

i auditioned by taking a couple of the extracurricular ballet classes offered on campus 6 days a week...they were excellent. pton offers a certificate in "theater and dance". basically, you could do either one (t or d) exclusively, or a combination. there are many dance opportunites, both through the certificate (like a minor) program, in town (Princeton ballet school/american repertory ballet...less than a 10 drive from campus), and in NYC of course!

but if u want to send in tapes of dancing material, should the performance be a solo one....lol i know its a stupid qs....but i mean my performance had like 4 other girls dancing with me....lol
does pton prefer solo dance material in the tapes? (for snowdancer and neone else who knows abt pton app process for arts supplement)

they strongly encourage doing an audition (esp. since you're so close, sleeping)...it sets you apart from the hundreds of videos they have to watch, and you can talk with students/faculty in the dept. while you're there (as well as gauge the quality of the class/facilities/teachers).
