This is probably a stupid question, and I'm expecting some laughs, but...

Should I include in the additional info box on my app. that I am Jewish? Will this help me, hinder me, or not make a difference whatsoever? My religion is the only thing that makes me even slightly unstereotypical (I'm white and female). Is it even worth mentioning?

If being Jewish has sculpted your identity, I hope it would come through in your extracurricular activities or your essays. If you volunteered at a synagogue sponsored activity, studied abroad in Israel, led a Jewish youth group, i dont even know, but if you did things that highlighted your faith than you shouldn't have to put that down. On the other hand merely putting it down when you have done nothing because of it shows its not a big aspect of your life and if it plays such a minor role than writing it down would be pointless because thats not who you are.

Bananaphone summed that up about right. If being Jewish is an important part of your identity, it will be pretty obvious without the additional info box. If its not an important part, then there is really no need to put it in the additional info anyway.

I work at the JCC in my area and volunteer there too. I put this on my apps and im not even jewish.

leave it out.

As for being unstereotypical, that will come across in your essays and recs.

if you are applying to schools in the northeast, you are actually considered part of an overrepresented minority

Yep, I was in the same situation (white Jewish female - although I'm an immigrant too)...I considered checking it off as a race, but ended up not marking anything and not including it elsewhere. It might hurt you more than it'd help you...either show it through activities or don't at all. :]

don't mention it

I would say leave it out. I don't see any way that this will help you at all.
