ok i just got this letter form bucknell today…i guess it’s one of those “likely letters”. it says “on the basis of our preliminary readings in a very strong applicant pool, i can report that admission appears most likely for you.”

is that what they really mean or do they send that stuff to everyone i’m jw b/c that would be nice if it meant i might get in lol

Something tells me they don't send those to everyone - I think that you are such a good applicant and they want to tell you that you will be accepted so you won't be prone to accept an offer from another school before they can notify you officially. What are your stats and what state are you from?

ohhh if thats the case then thats awesome b/c i love bucknell!! i was deferred @ cornell and bucknell/vandy are my 2nd choices...they said in the letter that i should visit so i might do that to show them that im really interested
im from ny...
stats=
gpa- 3.5 uw
sat- 1370
sat2s- 700 (Wr), 740 (math1c)
5 ap's
academic awards for chem, physics, english
honor roll
really good ec's
really good recs (additional ones from coaches)
good essays

Congratulations! Great stats as well. You never know, that deferral may just turn into an acceptance as well! Then there will be choices to make. I would definitely advise visiting to show your interest and maybe sit in on a few classes as well. You are not too far away to drive on over and it will take away that senior boredom!!! Good luck - I'd love to hear how you make out.

yeah i replied RD... i really hope i get in. it would be such a disappointment after this letter. its one of my top schools, but i guess i cant really decide much until april

Firstly, if you didnt get the letter, it does NOT mean you're not in. Do not be nervous. It is simply what it says, a letter to tell you your likely to be admitted in order to put you at ease. Secondly, read the ending. It tells you specifically that it is confidential and to share it with only your parents. So stop talking about it and making others nervous.

No, read benndaman's post...they don't send them to all admits, so don't worry if you don't get one. Most colleges don't send anything at all. It's going to be a tough two months, but you will get your envelopes!

crazy 242- i don't think a lot of people get them...i heard that the letters are basically "pre-acceptance letters" b/c they can't email formal admission letters yet...just b/c all your friends got them doesnt mean a lot of people get them...your friends could be very strong applicants too

camkerr, once again
these are letters for students who's application happened to stick out. It does not mean you are not a strong candidate for bucknell. Obviously they have not decided on who's getting in, they need longer, so it does not matter if you got one. Relax
