Wow. I just got an email from my professor about my course syllabus.

HW=15%

midterm=35%

finals=50%

Is this normal? I kinda feel like I can easily get ****ed over by any mistakes.

welcome to college

lol yeah.. this is normal. yours isn't too bad, actually. I just took a class last session and the break down was like this.

Midterm 40%

Final 60%

etti you took the words out of my mouth :P

Yeah I took Philosophy 7 in Summer Session A with similar score breakdowns. The mid-term and final were take-home essays so it wasn't that bad. Got 100% for homework, A- on midterm, B+ on Final. Ended up with an A- in the class.

That's about right, usually it's give or take 10 percent on the final and midterms.

hahah! ive had several classes as 60% final and 40% midterm... or how about this! last quarter i had a class where if u didnt take the optional midterm, your whole grade would be based on the final -- 100% =D

Engineering can be forgiving at times. They usually have a "late bloomer" policy where if you don't do well on midterm, and if you do well on the final, your final grade overwrites the midterm (essentially a 40-60% final can become a 100% final).

My senior design class had to present our design project to Chevron and the department. We didn't have fun compiling our report, it was around 30mb long and 200 pages if I remember right. The project was pretty much 100% of your grade. Felt good turning it in and not having to look back.

Well, I guess with the break down, its possible to procrastinate right? I mean for those classes that are 60%final and 40%midterm, people only study twice a quarter right?

If you want to avoid unneeded stress and unnecessary all-nighters, study as you go and you will feel much better. Don't let procrastination become your academic demon.

Procrastination may be an academic demon, but he's a demon who brings vodka.

;)

15% HW is A LOT. I had the optional midterm with 100% for the Final. I found the midterm to be ****ING EASY. The final was a tad harder. But thats almost all finals I guess.

that doesn't seem that odd to me... and i'm in high school... what sort of grading is everybody else getting in high school? i mean, homework + tests... what else is there really to grade? i mean, the nice teachers, i get a participation thing once in a while, but it's not the usual..

Well, in my old college, we usually have 3 tests, 10 quizzes and one final determining our grade. It's still all tests, but we have more chances to make up for mistakes.

in HS it was like 5-10% final exam and like 80% homework -_-; rest is quizzes// tests

^lol. People can pass those classes just by copying HW.

^ The good old days.

Word Bank!

For me in HS it was like 10-20% hw/projects, ~40% tests, 25-40% final. (and occasional BS participation points)
