this is so depressing.

Just to give you a little bit of hope, my dumb @$$ received a D in my math class too. I updated my coursework, and my school sent me an e-mail like an hour later saying that they were going to make an exception and let me continue my enrollment. They recommended that I take it over in the summer, but I did not have to. Right now I am still trying to talk to my professor to see if there is anything I can do…I was 16 points shy of the C. If not, then oh well…I might take it over in the summer anyway.

Good luck.
[BTW, this was an extra math course, not the one used to complete my IGETC.]

what math course did u flunk in? college algebra or calculus III.
calculus III may be an exception but college algebra ll give u no mercy

hey bitty, may I ask what school said they would make an exception?

I’m basically in the same situation in that I’m taking a math class right now (haven’t took the final yet so might still pull off a C) that I’m not using to fulfill my math requirement for Igetc. It’s my second math class. I’m trying to gauge my chances of getting rescinded, trying to stay positive but my grades don’t come out til June 11th and I don’t want to stay another semester or year at a CC.

I know someone that wants to go to Irvine in a similar situation and they called and explained their situation. UCI said it was ok and to retake the class in the summer and get at least a “B”. You wont know anything until you start calling all the schools. If davis does not play ball then try a few other UCs you applied to.

Sure, sorry I forgot to say that in the first post. I am going to UC Davis. And I am an Econ major.

Being doctor will suck you in. My dad is a doctor and originally he planned to work for 10 years and retire, but he got so into the research and becoming top in his field, and all that other nonsense, that he forgot to retire.

anyone know who i call for UC Davis?

You are going to have to call admissions - there you will talk to an advisor, who may or may not send you to someone else to talk to.

But they’re going to tell you, that you need to date all of your grades and classes online through my UCDavis after that, they will send you an immidiate email asking your about it. there is also a spot on the update form that asks for a detailed explination. Explain that you are willing to retake the class in the summer dude.

*** heads up I know a girl who was going to get a D in her critical thinking enlgish last year. She panicked and the teacher wasn’t willing to help her, despite having been accpeted and planning on attending ucsd. So she contacted their admissions and told them what happened and they made an exception for her, and allowed her to take the class at ucsd that fall.

i guess if you guys are curious as to what happened. i emailed my teacher and asked him to recalculate my grade to make sure there were no mistakes and explained how hard i tried and said he can check the trend of my grades. basically i had a C till the final…That final ladies and gentlemen, was one son of a *****. as of the teacher i basically just begged him to give me a C politely and with reason. and i called UC davis transfer advisers or w.e. and they said to update it on the website so the person who looked at my application could make a decision. i hope that person is nice. :(

baller90210:

Don’t lose hope! I had to take a class in the summer and I reported it and they told me it was fine, I think odds are you’ll be fine, maybe you should offer to take it in the summer?

Guys, go ahead, lie and cheat. But it never surmounts to anything, you will fail in another part of life because you cheated in one aspect. Think about it that way.

@UC_Transfer,

Your comment about having ur grades changed by professors, that really hits home for me personally. I took a much required Spanish class, where literally everyone but me were already spanish speakers. Now the class was graded on a curve, how do you think that felt? I spoke with the professor numerous times, told him my circumstances, and he knew how hard I was studying. In the end, my grade was 90.00, I don’t know if he changed it, but I sure as hell worked for it. So don’t think your superior by saying you never talked to ur professors, that’s just stupid. Any good student knows to build a relationship with their professors. Just my two cents.

That’s a ■■■■■■■■ line of reasoning, revel.

I’ve taken science courses with people who were already doctors, nurses, or had a degree in science from their respective country of origin.

The result? I was the 2nd highest grade in the class.

Establishing a rapport with a professor is one thing. Asking him to bump up your grade because you tried hard is another. Do you honestly think trying hard means a damn thing?

This whole “I tried hard, so I deserve an A” line of reasoning smacks of “spoiled baby” to me.

This is why GPA as a determinant to possible success at a university is bullshi.t You have 3.0 students who argue their way to 3.8, when in reality, their breadth and depth of knowledge is nowhere near what you would expect from a 3.8 GPA student…

Do I think I’m better than you because I never tried to argue my grade based on the fact that I tried hard? Yeah, I do. I am better than you for that reason, as well as many others.

Damn UC_Transfer, you sure are a prick. It’s impressive, really.

Arguing grades is lame. It isn’t ethical, I’ve never done it, and I’ve still managed to get a 4.0 through 2 years at a Community College. I’m with you there- arguing for higher grades blows.

However, I find it way more benign than what you’ve claimed you’ve done repeatedly. You frequently make posts about how " [you] purposely give the wrong answer to [your] class mates." and also how you ask irrelevant questions to kill classtime so your classmates won’t get their questions answered. Instead of arguing up grades, which has a net neutral effect on the learning process of other students (but undermines the educational system, I acknowledge), what you do has a net negative effect on the learning process of other students as well as generally undermines the educational system. That, to me, seems much worse.

Now, rationally thinking, I realize that you might just be saying you do these prickish things to be badass (trying to come off as badass to an anonymous chatroom? Isn’t that just the pinnacle of being pathetic?), but I believe you might actually be doing these things in real life to some extent. If that is the case, these actions make you a tool- the fact that you talk about them frequently as if they’re something cool proves your disconnect from the real world.

Hey, I’m just like everyone else out there. The difference is, I know I’m a prick. The rest of you probably consider yourselves nice people. But a lot of you were openly advocating lying on UC application all the while saying that “it’s how it is in the real world”. I submit to you, that it is the vast majority of you that are pricks. All I’m doing is holding up a mirror to you.

Arguing up grades is not a victimless crime as you claim. I’ve had my barely an A- taken from me by enough of you bastards arguing up your grades and screwing up the curve.

I can’t expect you to understand my actions, because I’m not sure if you’ve experienced a highly competitive science class yet. However, when all those around you are cheating, and trying their best to ensure their success at your expense it becomes evident the old methods you used at Junior College just won’t fly here.

Are my methods underhanded, and do they ■■■■■■ overall learning? Yeah, probably. My grade is largely dependent on how I perform on the exam as well as how well you perform on yours. When I’m confronted with 100+ rivals in a class, each one of them gunning for a position I wish to hold in the future, do you think I’m gonna go out of my way to help them?

No, I’m gonna do everything in my power to ensure you perform to the least of your abilities. Short of direct sabotage that is (stealing your report, messing with your lab).

Also, why on earth would I try to prove how “cool” I am to the lot of you? I can’t stand the vast majority of you (save for a few exceptions). To me, you all come off as a bunch of self absorbed, neurotic people with as much understanding of the “real world” as one could expect from those who’ve had everything handed to them since they were children.

Also, collegeconfidential is hardly the real world. In fact, it’s far from it.

wow… i think we should report UC Transfer. He sounds like he’s off his meds and might be tempted to do something harmful.

hahaha…this is actually pretty fun to read.

Lmao UC_Transfer sounds bitter about something…
I have NEVER met anyone like him, neither have my friends that attend a wide range of schools (Cal, UCLA, Cornell, etc.). Judging by his posts, you can infer that he is most likely a social outcast, at UCSD (where it really isn’t hard to make friends with other social outcasts).

at UC_trans,

Iono about you buddy, but I own and run my own business. I work 60 hours a week, and on top of that I am a Taekwondo instructor. I don’t like ppl like you who think they are better than others. To be serious, your probably no where near my league when it comes to academics, it’s only taken me 1 year to get into UCLA, and I can practically go with whatever major I choose. Guys, I’m not bragging, I just wanna show up this idiot who thinks he is better than everybody else. You do what is necessary to win, yes, so don’t throw out talking to your teacher, because it is all part of the game. If you think its “unethical”, I would say those who screw other ppl over alot farther than trying your best to get the grade you want. I can’t believe you compared a language class to science, what are u stupid? science is universal you dumb dumb. some ppl, i swear.

This may come as a shock, but some families actually wait until it’s financially feasible before they have kids.

Exactly…Whats wrong with a financially stable family to help out their kid through college? Be it buying the kid a car or giving him someplace to stay so he can focus on his studies… What kind of reasoning goes inside your head when you assume that kids who don’t work = spoiled?
