This is the week RD-ers!

Late last week I was contacted by Penn about having an interview (which is today), I thought this was a bit late, what with being so close to April 1st and all...

Anyway, when I spoke to the interviewer on the phone to arrange a time, he told me that this week is when the 'board' sits. I presume he means the application review comittee.. Or whatever it's called. *

So, unless you got a likely letter, or were accepted ED, just remember, at some point in the not so distant future, * Penn are going to be talking about you!*

Bet you can't wait.*

Hm they’re just now starting to review RD-ers?

I’m just guessing - but they probably went through one round of reading applications already… obviously picking out the likelies… and maybe tossing out the clearly unqualified candidates?

Anyway - thanks for the info.

Have my fingers crossed that the adcom will see something unique in me ( ; GL to everyone! Only three weeks or so left.

You’re right, that’s more likely.

It’d be gutting to be travelling for an interview when I’d already been rejected!!

This 1998 article is obviously quite dated (especially the numbers it reports), but it provides some interesting insight into the mechanics of how admissions decisions are made at Penn (and similar schools):

[High drama in the office of admissions / The Christian Science Monitor - CSMonitor.com](<a href=“High drama in the office of admissions - CSMonitor.com”>High drama in the office of admissions - CSMonitor.com)

Just had the Interview, 3 hours!!! He said that by now there has been about a 50% cut.

interesting article - it makes me nervous though. Her 4 B’s junior year got her rejected. damn.

Just got a similar invite from Harvard today… will wait for next week!

I’m only a junior,so I haven’t applied yet, but I was wondering if you apply early decision and are deferred, are you still binded to attending Penn if you are accepted in the spring, or is it just like you applied regular at that point?

Once you are deferred into the RD pool of applicants, you are no longer bound to Penn per the ED since they haven’t offered ED to you.

Alright, thanks. The idea of early decision kind of worries me because I’m not entirely sure if Penn is my number one choice

Sounds like you shouldn’t apply ED then. People have gotten into very messy situations applying ED to schools that they’re not sure about. Do some more research on Penn and other schools before you apply, so that if you do decide to apply ED, you are dead set on it.

Yeah I’m planning on visiting my top schools in the spring, so that should help me narrow my choices down

@jgraider, me too!

I’m definitely going to make the east coast swing.

I just checked in to my Penn Portal account and it says in the checklist that I haven’t submitted my 2 recommendation letters from my teachers yet… However, I sent it using the common app around mid-December. They haven’t sent me any emails/messages about it.

Does this mean that the admissions officers have already rejected my application? Or have they just not updated the website?

This is bothering me a lot, especially since you mentioned that they’ve already cut down on 50% of the candidates :(

no this just means they haven’t updated your account info yet. don’t worry it took them around 2 months (give or take a week or two) to get all my stuff back in december

^^ email them. If they replied and they still haven’t updated the website, assume the worst.

i have the same thing on mine. they said they would email or contact you if something was missing. i don’t think its something to worry about.
