This Is Us. Anyone watching?

I thought it was also odd that Rebecca was out and about and no one was looking for her! Because people just let someone with dementia wander around and expect them to find their way home?

I know that I’m seeing things from my own perspective. But Kate is (of course) seeing things from her own myopic viewpoint. How things are affecting her. Seriously have some sympathy for Toby. He had this child with special needs also, and how did she not see how much weight he lost? She’s worried about the avocado? And not seeing other things going on.

Honestly the text message could have been about a lot of things. And I suspect that his cross fit friends aren’t only male.

I hate talking about Kate and their lack of a substantive storyline. Love Griffin Dunne, he’s amazing. Those scenes he had with Sterling, great!

Good episode and makes me want more. Not many shows do that

I thought the pregnant woman was with Baby Jack grown up. He was passing down the 5 lbs of shrimp tradition. I did not understand, however, the reference to hot dogs.

Randall made mention of hot dogs, also. Must be yet another Pearson tradition.

That scene made me so sad. If he played that song so much and told that story to his children why couldn’t he have reached out to or even reconciled with Nicky.

Hot dogs were part of the holiday when they were little and they had car trouble on their way to Rebecca’s mom’s and had to spend the night in that hotel.

Just a couple of thoughts …

Someone more observant than I am (DH) thought Kate was wearing her wedding rings when she signed the police report. Also Toby mentioned he was using a group chat, so maybe the texts were innocent.

I’m really curious about who the fiancé is. It could be Cassie, but I also thought about the girl Kevin met in the bar. She told him she wanted to settle down, marry and have kids. Kevin’s rushed timeline (kids and marriage by the time he’s 40) might make her a reasonable possibility.

I feel like Kate was upset about Toby hyper-focusing on being the one who came up with the idea & fed Jack his first solid food. He was making a huge deal about how it was blowing up on social media. It sounds like Kate is feeling really marginalized and left behind.

I am about 3 episodes behind. I will have to catch up this weekend during all the predicted rain.

Timothy Omundson is the actor who plays Kate and Toby’s neighbor who had a stroke. He was detective Carlton Lassiter( “Lassie”) in Psych. DD and I finally recognized is voice.

I think he is hilarious in This Is Us.

I don’t think Toby is having an affair with the woman who texted him, and doubt that Kate suspects it. She is upset that he is sharing personal details with a bunch of “strangers” and getting moral support from them. Ha, having been in a CrossFit gym for awhile, though, I get it! You bond quickly with people who go through torture with you.

@RookieCollegeMom , thanks for the ID on the neighbor. He seemed familiar, but I hadn’t put him together with Psych.

I love that the show folks have included an actor who has actually had a stroke. Timothy’s humor and crankiness on the show are believable and relatable.

Anyone else notice how Nicky was examining the framed photos on the sideboard in Beth and Randall’s house? He was fascinated, hurt, regretful … and probably so many other things about how much he missed.

I think the badge on the police officer who brought Rebecca back to the cabin for the 40th Birthday said “Bethlehem,” which is an actual small city about an hour from Philadelphia. So that may be the “city scene” where Rebecca is lost, and then the city cops bring her back to a cabin in a nearby rural area.

I assumed the original family cabin was near Pittsburgh, but Bethlehem is a good 4 hours away from there. However, the North Jersey to Philadelphia timeline when Randall was running for City Council (or picking up Thanksgiving decorations) didn’t quite make sense either. Maybe some “artistic license” by the writers?

It was definitely the old family cabin.

Why wasn’t Miguel concerned about Rebecca being gone for so long on Thanksgiving Day?

I think (and hope) that Kate was jumping to conclusions about the text message. Since it’s a group chat (he mentioned that) certainly could have been about someone else.

I cannot support Kate being angry or whatever for Toby taking care of himself and losing weight. He’s had a lot of health problems - so positive he is doing self-care! And he does not seem to be pressuring Kate to get motivated for her health - he gives her so many free passes! The avocado being one - he was upset for a minute - then he reasoned and it passed.

If I hear Kate say one more time that her excuse for everything is being home with a baby 24/7…

Nicky and Kevin = very touching!! <3

I wonder if the Deja/Her mom story line will continue? It sort of died off at the end of the episode.

Didn’t Kevin say “Mom, Randall’s not coming - remember we’re not talking to him” - didn’t he use “we’re” not “I’m” - so like they are all not talking to Randall?

Finally, I CRINGE every time they do a scene where Nicky’s mom and dad are in a fight and we can hear it - and he is sitting alone so affected. Gets to me EVERY. TIME.

I can;’t handle Kate. Period. I thought Kevin said, “We’re not talking” meaning he and Kevin, but I’m not at all positive about that.

Yes, I think that “we’re not talking” is up for interpretation. I mean Kate is there for the 40th but makes sense she might side with her pal Kevin.

I also just want to say that I’ve never been that big of a fan of Miguel (probably they set it up for us to feel a little lukewarm about him) but on social media it seems that he and Sterling K Brown are pretty close - and quite hilarious together.

I am totally sympathetic to Miguel. Everyone treats him like gum on the bottom of your shoe. And he seems to try so hard.

Here’s a funny article from last year about the whole Philly-to-Alpine fantasy. https://www.northjersey.com/story/entertainment/2018/10/24/us-randall-pearson-defies-geography-quick-commute-alpine-nj-philadelphia-pa/1750880002/

@“Youdon’tsay” , I agree. There must be some reason they treat Miguel so dismissively, there must be a backstory as to why. I hope they do an episode on that. He just didn’t appear in their lives out of nowhere. He was Jack’s best friend and the kids probably knew him well. No matter how hard it was at first to see their Mom with him, age, time and maturity would have brought them around, I would think.

Yeah, i think there must be some kind of back story. I wish they’d share it. It’s not like he started the house fire that killed Jack, but maybe the kids think he “moved in” on Rebecca too quickly after that? I wonder how long they lived in that apartment after the fire. It didn’t seem like too long, right? The fire was in the kids’ senior year, and the scenes we saw a couple of weeks ago where she gets the job was Randall’s freshmen year.

I should add that I have loved the actor back to his Castle days.
