This Is Us. Anyone watching?

I adore Beth.

I watched the last 2 episodes back to back - I still like the show, but this season (for me) hasn’t been as good as previous ones. I’ll keep plugged in because I really am interested in how they’ll tie it all up, and I actually care about some of the characters,

Rebecca calling a spatula a “food turner over” (I think was what we were told) hit home directly in my gut. My mom died of brain cancer and one day I was driving her to the store and she said "look at all the “get 'em up and go things!” - we were in traffic, and those things were cars. Yes, this show has the dialog straight from peoples real life stories, no doubt about it.

With last week, we (at least some of us) were not sure if the intruder was real. For this week, the uncertainty seems to be whether Kevin is in bed with Sophie. Wonder what the mystery of Kate’s episode will be next week. And Kevin and Randall were tied together at the end of Randall’s episode. Maybe there will be some connection for Kate to Kevin or Randall in hers (though presumably we would have seen it in Randall’s).

Missed tonight’s show. (just catching the last 10 minutes). Where is it available on line? I think this is last week’s show?

Kevin, Kevin, Kevin.

It’ll be online tomorrow.

what did the card that Sophie gave him at the funeral say?

Kevin has always been a favorite to watch for me. I’m from Pittsburgh and Kevin being home was special.

The note was an alternate ending (though at the time neither she nor Kevin knew the actual ending) of Good Will Hunting. Endings they kept exchanging apparently over the years.

Thanks, @saillakeerie !

“Will decided to keep his life simple and always remain a janitor” or something close to that.

I haven’t always been a fan of Kevin, but I thought this episode gave us so much insight. Randall was Rebecca’s favorite and Kate was Jack’s special child, which left Kevin as odd man out sometimes. The way his late MIL built him up was so revealed in such a sweet way. I loved this episode.

Spoiler alert question (although I’m pretty sure you wouldn’t read this if you haven’t seen the latest episode):

I don’t even know the name of Kate’s friend, but when she answered the door it appeared that she and Kevin don’t care for each other - did I miss something? Is this the same woman that Kate met at Overeater’s Anonymous?

@MaryBarbara58 yes, you are correct. Madison

Yes, it’s the woman from OA, Madison. I think Kate has had a love-hate relationship with her because Kate looks at her and thinks she’s so thin why is she at OA? But they have grown closer as Kate began to understand that Madison’s anorexia is just as serious as her overeating. Kevin has seen her at Kate’s wedding and at the hospital when Kate gave birth, for instance. I think she doesn’t get the way she comes across at times, but that helps in a way because she’s clueless as to the way the Pearsons are so insular.

FYI, the actress who plays Madison is married to the show’s creator, Dan Fogelman.

As the episode unfolded, I was thinking “don’t do it, Kevin” when it looked at various times that Sophie would be the one we saw at the end of the episode. Sophie’s mom just died. Day of funeral. She is engaged. Would have been a total Kevin move though. Timing totally wrong though.

And even Madison was in a bad place for their hookup. Ultimately I am not buying Madison is the soulmate for Kevin. Still thinking ultimately its Sophie (playing into the different endings/not knowing the actual ending for Good Will Hunting somehow). Or maybe Cassidy. We shall see.

Early on, before they had sex, I speculated that Cassidy would be the mother of Kevin’s child. Now, Madison is thrown in the mix. Sophie, for this kid, appears to be out of the running. But, remember what M Night said last night about the movie reshoot? Something about how you should give the people the ending they want (I wish I still had cable and the rewind/DVR feature)? What’s the ending we want? Is it Kevin and Sophie? I am happy to just ride along and see where the show takes us.

I didn’t find last night’s episode as compelling as some others. I found myself just waiting to find out who Kevin slept with.

Sophie is engaged not married. See seemed to be very emotional/conflicted about Kevin (as way he). Wouldn’t seem crazy if she decided not to get married to Grant and sought out Kevin. But who knows. Particularly with this show.

Ending I would want I think is Kevin and Sophie. Childhood sweet hearts. Both have gone through a lot, lost a lot, etc. Seeing them together would be good (at least to me). On movie set they talked about ending people wanted. Sophie and Kevin talked about the ending to Good Will they wanted (and ultimately the actual one was better than they imagined). Maybe the idea is they imagined at different times being together but maybe not being together is better than they imagined?

Good point about the ending we want. At this point, I would say Kevin and Sophie, although we don’t really know Madison. Kevin and Sophie seemed good together. It was a bit odd for Sophie to just leave the reception, especially with her fiance there.

I loved Kevin at Claire’s grave, especially noting he was just doing Fresca at this point. And then leaving and taking the old photo. Was interesting to see the contrast between Kevin’s expectation of how his mom would react to his TV role and the fact that she didn’t even watch once his line was cut.

Last episode we say Jack telling young Randall that everything that was going on with Kevin and Kate, he and Rebecca just needed Randall to be ok. That puts a lot of pressure on a kid and given what happened with Jack, put even more pressure on Randall as a teen/young adult. Helps explain why Randall holds everything in until things blow up.

Was interesting to see Jack talking last night to young Kevin about the sheep mobile. At the time he was saying to the effect of sometimes you cannot have that which you love but you can find something else to love, Kevin was talking with Madison. Was singing “If you can’t be with the one you love, love the one you are with.”

Kevin and Randall are going to have some type of huge fight soon. In the flash forward, they are not speaking to each other. Will be interesting to see what that is given how hard they lean on each other (particularly in recent episodes).
