This Is Us. Anyone watching?

“Seems like the leaving on opening night was not really a big deal - I’d think the show would be ruined after that.” - everything else I’ve been able to suspend my imagination for, but THIS was absolutely NOT one of them. I “suppose” an understudy would have filled in on opening night (even the smallest of productions have understudies who are just chomping at the bit to get their chance to shine) - but I cannot even fathom that barring an excuse to the producers of a “life or death” emergency that a principal actor could just disappear and reappear without being fired. And why, oh why, would Ron Howard take his niece to the “second opening night” – oy. This one was too clunky for me to swallow.

Ok, rant over.

Now…EVERY dang time they showed Jack I was certain he was going to die in the scene. That was a very stressful watch for me. I am not looking forward to that. At all.

Blue Hawaiians! Hilarious. I do love how they toss in these little modern notations of “real” life, but they seemed to revolve around William (his sexuality, his medical mj use). Now what?

Yes. The whole theatre-related storyline isn’t believable.

@conmama What Jesse said, "William offered a soft arm rest for weary souls to lean on.”

yeah, I’m going to miss William and his relationship with Randall and his family. I really like Randall’s wife, too.

Thanks @alwaysamom ! Love that line.

You’re welcome. I love it, too, especially coming from Denis O’Hare.

The William soft landing line was something like “Like the cushion of an armchair, William was people’s soft place to land.”

We did, and also liked it. We thought he was the strongest part of it, and were really glad to see that he’s getting good work.

^^Sterling K Brown has been working continuously as an actor since graduating from Tisch with his MFA in the early 2000s, both on stage and on screen. His excellent Emmy-winning performance as Christopher Darden in The People v. O.J. Simpson was largely responsible for him being cast in This is Us.

I really liked the character development in Army Wives.

According to one website, it was “He was a soft armrest for weary souls to lean on.”

We watched thee OJ show a couple of weeks ago and were delighted to see Brown. I love his voice.

Season finale?!! Really? They better hope we come back.

I had an inkling this was going to be a non-event when Entertainment Tonight said cast members were apologizing for tonight’s show.

Aargh that was disappointing. I thought we’d get more answers.

I’m fine with it. We already know he dies, so what’s the rush?

I don’t like the direction any of the characters are going, except perhaps Randall.

@TempeMom I posted Jesse’s quote in post #281.

Jack’s monologue at the end saved the episode, which I otherwise did not really enjoy. I’m fine with not yet knowing how he died, however.

I’m fine with the cliffhangar, because Jack was just so cute to look at in this episide. I loved his monologue, too. I felt like smacking Rebecca. Amazing how much older they can make him lookwith the scruff.

I didn’t mind either. I’m afraid once they show when and how he dies, he won’t be in as many scenes.

I had a feeling he wasn’t going to die in a car accident on the way to see Rebecca. It was disappointing to not even get a clue as to how he died.

Kate’s new career plan would just put her into more conflict with Rebecca. It seems contrived to make that happen.

Except for Jack’s monologue, the episode was meh for me. I guess we should be glad there is still some meat on the bone for season 2.
