This Is Us. Anyone watching?

Since we are on the topic of Deja’s comments to Randall about naming her baby after William and how life isn’t pointless, it bothered me that after Randall spilled his heart out to his daughters, his two biological daughters’ response was ‘we’ll give you two a moment’, referring to Deja and Randall. What was up with that??? The other two girls have no response to their Dad’s heartfelt admission???

Agree, @Lemonlee , I thought that was really strange.

I think Randall and Deja have a special bond because they are both adopted.

Agree. That was awkward. It was like the writers didn’t want to write any dialogue for Tess and Annie.

I think there was a lot left out of the episode due to them only allowing an hour for the finale.

Was there an indication that at one point they planned a 2 hour finale? If not, presumably the writers knew the time they had and included what they wanted to include.

None whatsoever. Only wishful thinking from the fans.

As an FYI, 2 hour episodes of a one hour show count as 2 in the episode count. The season was always planned as 18 episodes, not 19.

I think the point some of us have, is not exactly based on evidence that there was suppose to be more (2 hours or whatever) but that it felt it needed it. It diminishes nothing for me on the series, but I felt that they were totally spent (time, resources, emotions) after that 2nd to last episode and had not much left to give for the very last episode.

And nothing against him/this - because Randall is among my favorite characters - but there was a noticeable focus on him in this episode - Kevin and Randall more side figures.

Also we know that Kevin says he wants to focus on the non-profit - maybe indicating he had been still doing some acting…did we get any glimpses of Kate “present” and “aspirations”???

I took Annie and Tess leaving Deja alone to speak to Randall as an indication they knew what she was about to share with him, and they were giving her the opportunity to do it in a private moment between the two of them.

I think I’m in the minority, but I appreciate they didn’t go too far into the future. I think it went with the theme of the show being that life is about the little moments, and the threads that connect family members to one another and from generation to generation.
They could have ended the series with Rebecca’s death, but they gave us a last episode made up of little moments. In life, we often focus on the future or the big events and fail to enjoy the present. The last episode was of little moments, and like life, the future is unknown.

I agree. I thought the last episode was an appropriate denouement to the series.
