This Is Us. Anyone watching?

Such a beautiful show that was.

Trivial, but I LOVED Tess’s hair! Loved the whole Randall family story.

Am I being dumb - what was the plant Kevin brought Nicki - pot?

Is Toby working out and losing weight because he wants to stay healthy for baby Jack - and is worried that Kate won’t be?

Also, if you use Spotify there is a GREAT playlist called “This is US: Best of”

^Ooh, thanks for that. I will find it on my 500-mile trip I’m about to leave on at 3 am!

^^Don’t yell at me if you cry a little bit - those songs will evoke some scene memories!!!

The plant was the same one his sponsor told him to get - to have something to take care of.

^^^ Oh yes, of course!! Thank you!

Specifically, the plant was a ficus benjamina.

I thought Toby was working out so much as an addiction perhaps taking place of food, vs Kate who is overeating to deal with her stress.

I love how real Beth’s reaction to Tess wanting to cut off her hair was and then her relief that it looked so cute.

The haircut def brought Tess to looking like a teenager.

I see Toby’s working out that same way @mom2and does. I think the writers are contrasting how Toby and Kate are dealing with their stress - him by working out obsessively, her by eating.

Exercise can, in many people, take the place of antidepressants. His workouts could be helping him . I suspect the plot will differ.

Agree, but I think there is a point where is moves beyond helping to being obsessive.

@abasket, loved the playlist! It got me through the overnight part of the long car ride.

The actor who plays Toby had a fat suit which he wore in previous seasons. I guess that it was decided to lose the fat suit and make it a part of the storyline.

The rumor in the first season was that Chrissy Metz (as part of being cast) would lose a substantial amount of weight. Since that seems to not have happened.

If I were to choose which way I would chose to handle stress, I choose Toby’s. I don’t think it’s obsessive, not even close. A healthy way to handle a very stressful situation. Which IMO Kate is not doing.

Agree with @deb922 . I’ve mentioned before on this thread how much Kate’s obesity bothers me. I wish hers was a fat suit! It is so dangerously unhealthy and she (Chrissy) clearly can not manage to lose any of the weight. If anything, she looks heavier than ever to me. I find it concerning enough that it interferes with my enjoyment of the show. Good for Toby for exercising and for the writers for showing that someone can “shed the fat suit.”

@MomofWildChild , D & I say the same thing about Chrissy Metz repeatedly.

I find myself having to bite my tongue during every episode to keep from criticizing “Kate’s” weight. But Chrissy Metz is a real human being who is certainly well aware of her size and the risks associated with it. Should the producers have written her out of the story when she didn’t lose weight? Should they have replaced her with another actress like shows did in the 60’s.?

^^^ I don’t think anyone is saying that. She is someone we have sort of found compassion for on this show - and yet, we know that while her character Kate is one thing, IRL she is real human being with some serious, serious weight issues. It’s just very distracting - I find myself not seeing her as “Kate” but as “Chrissy, OMG you are so large, I am so worried about your health!”

True that health or poor health is not always visible - and maybe the fact that the show uses her weight as part of the story line is also a little disturbing.

(but I love the show!!)

Yes, I agree. This hits close to home, I have some in-laws in that weight range and worry daily about their health.

I wish Metz’s weight didn’t come up repeatedly here.
