you can't beat that...yes i know they're using special cameras and it's a long exposure :b

amen.

Astronomy is awesome. I know I'm probably thinking way ahead of our time but I would like to study the subterranean oceans on Europa and Ganymede (Jupiter's moons), and compare them with Earth's oceans (comparative oceanography, if you will) which is why I want to double major in Astronomy and Geology.

But seriously, awesome picture, it's the new background on my computer.

wow that is really beautiful

What an awesome desire, ironmetal.

Seriously. I've never heard that one before.

I find pictures of outer space so humbling. We think we know everything on this little rock out in the small planet boonies.

Well, as 3rd year astrophysics major at Berkeley I certainly see where you're coming from. Realize though that if you major in astronomy you really won't be taking those kind of images, that's more astophotography (and I'm sure you know that).

^ya it's a sad truth...in a way

I remember the first time that I saw objects like the Andromeda Galaxy, the Orion Nebula, Jupiter's cloud belts and Saturn's rings through a good telescope. I've been hooked ever since. Amazing stuff . . .

word, OP. APOD was the reason I got into astronomy in HS and am still doing it as a hobby right now.
but you realise it's a just a beautiful composite :P

^but it's still a beautiful image

it's unfortunately that it's impossible to see those things in rl

^well i mean...ya you get it
