but do colleges NEED the official score reports from collegeboard? I'm pretty sure my school puts scores on our transcripts. if so, do I still need to pay extra for the score reports?

I don’t know as our system is different in Australia and mine was done over the phone. As a mature aged student (I was 28) my transcripts had been filed away long long ago.

My suggestion is that you invest the time and fee if you are not sure so that your bases are covered. It would demonstrate your professionalism :-)

yeah that’s true…i just feel bad for my parents. the cost of applying is bad enough. I’ll have to try to pay some of the fees with my own money.

Yes. If you want a college not to just throw out your application, you need to send the official score report, regardless of what your school does or does not put on transcripts.

alright. thank you for the solid answer!

Definitely. You could email the colleges though and ask… because, (though I don’t know of any), there may be a few schools that don’t require the official reports. Unless you get a definitive answer from the colleges though, send the reports. All of the colleges I am applying to require that applicants do just that.

Good luck! It IS a lot of money!
But hopefully it will be worth it and you’ll get into a great school at a decent price. :)

Yes, official score reports are required. This eliminates the possibility that a high school might misrepresent the scores (rare) or mis-record them (more common).

This also suggests that it is a good idea to check your high school transcript to make sure the scores they put on it are accurate. Some human typist somewhere probably had to transcribe them from a CB report to your transcript and was probably doing hundreds of others at the time. It doesn’t hurt to check before sending your transcripts out.
