As an international student who applies to a college with no financial aid requested and is accepted, is it possible to attend the college for a year and then ask for financial aid?

Yes it is possible (but different schools may have different rules). Every student, domestic or international, applies for aid every year. Whether you’ll get anything is a different question entirely.

You can apply for financial aid each year, I believe. Probably depends on the specific school’s policies. In fact, if you are given financial aid, you MUST reapply for it each year. If your financial situation changes you are certainly encouraged to apply. However, if your school does not give aid to an international student, they probably won’t give you aid at any time. But I don’t suppose it would hurt to try. Don’t count on it, though.

Be aware that some colleges have a policy of never awarding financial aid to students who weren’t awarded aid for their freshman year. At those colleges, if you decide to attend, you are expected to pay for it yourself for the entire degree program.

I would not advise you to apply as an international student without asking for money if there is any chance you will need it during your studies.

Actually some colleges have a policy that if you don’t APPLY for financial aid for your freshman year, they will not award it in the future. Check with each college to be sure.
