This might sound crazy, but...

So, let me first just say: I'm sorry to everyone on the board for my back and forth shenanigans as I try to figure out just what I want to do for high school. I think I found a way to reach the best of both worlds Cue Hannah Montana music

I was thinking that I would finish out my Freshman year at my current school which is a small private day school in Maine. This year has been awful for me and as I have been at the same school since fourth grade, and with my parents blessing, I am going to attend my local public school in NH next year as a Sophomore. However, I am going to view that year as almost a gap year; A time for me to work out my extracurriculars and really get my grades up.

Then, I want to apply to multiple boarding schools as a repeat sophomore. I plan on applying for financial aid to schools like Taft, Choate, Tabor, Miss Porters, Etc. It sounds definitely coo-coo bananas, but I am more concerned about how THREE different high schools would look on a college app? My first choice right now is Bates for college and I would probably die if I didn't get in, to be honest.

But anyway, I would like to say thanks in advance for any help I could be getting from you guys. I truly truly appreciate it and I hope that I can get some great feedback.

Good luck on finals, everybody!

Sincerely,
Blaine :-bd

Sounds like a plan! And it sounds like the reason you are going to three schools in three years is that you want out of your current school but need somewhere to go while you apply to boarding school as no one can just sign up for this fall at this point. As long as you have a legitimate and compelling reason for leaving your school during this gap year I don’t think there is a pejorative aspect to it. If you are leaving to go to an easier school to boost your grades for application that might raise some eyebrows.

I don’t pretend to know what AOs think. I’m sure they’ve seen it all so just make sure you have good reasons and are willing to state the truth about those reasons before pursuing this path.

Agree with the above. Some students are in 3 different high schools for reasons outside their control, e.g. parents move. That said, one step at a time; you need to get into a boarding school first. Good luck.

Since there are so many school districts that transition from middle school to high school after the freshman year, if you start BS as a repeat-soph, colleges likely will NOT bother asking you for the transcripts from your previous schools-- your previous school moves will be moot.

Keep in mind that applying for FA will make your chances of admission more challenging. You will improve your chances by applying to schools where your profile is well above the school’s avg. Since you are open to girls schools, also consider Emma Willard. Emma is especially generous w FA.
