<p>It appears that what has changed really doesn't change her admissions strategy that much, it's just that her ultimate goal has "shifted" a bit. Her focus till now has been to end up a surgeon working at an academic medical center. While that may very well still happen, it appears that research (not "basic" research, but "clinical" or "translational" research- whateverthehell that distinction means) has become more of an "absolute". </p>
<p>She showed me some "clinician-scientist" programs (and the like) at some med schools that weren't M.D./PhD. and it appears they have substantial appeal to her, also. Sooooooo.......her admissions list has research oriented MD programs, MD with Research Distinction Programs, MD with MMS programs, MD with research-oriented residency programs, MSTP programs, MSTP programs through NIH.....the mind boggles. At least mine does. Jeebus there's a lot of stuff I know nothing about. </p>
<p>She'll figure it out and then she'll explain it to me. I hope.</p>
