This One's A Shocker!!!!

It's another what are my chances thread!!

ok, i'm starting to think about what schools i should apply to (saftey, match, and reach), so where do you think i stand with schools like UVA, W&M, harvard, yale, any other ivy league

Female, Alexandria, VA (northern VA)
SAT: 2050 -- i'm going to take them again
SAT II: Math1: 720 -- i'm going to also take 2 more, maybe lit and physics

Course load: most challenging

SO . . . where do i stand???

you will have to raise SATs to 2200 or higher for the ivies considering youre from NoVa, perhaps the most competitive area in the country for college admissions. You should be good for UVA and W&M now, but SAT above 2100 would make it more of a sure thing. Dont know if the ivies are really worth it when you can go to one of those for much much cheaper.

yeah, i've been working on raising my SATs. I suck at the CR section; i got a 630 :(. It's strange because I'm great at english, but I dont work well under the pressure of reading the long passages. Do you have any tips for improving the CR???

i only got a 710, but i usually dont read the whole passage before trying to answer the questions. ill read the opening paragraph to get the idea of the passage, then read all of the questions, and then go back and look for where the answers might be, read those sections closely. Most of the passage is just there to waste your time, and you can usually skim if you know what you are looking for.

I also suggest ckmets method. I was able to go from 710 to 800 using it. Also, knowing your greek and latin roots is very helpful with the vocab.

I see you're taking Ib spanish 2, you can try to use your spanish knowledge to work out some of the vocab, at least thats what I did and it worked very well.

I'm from NoVa too. I haven't mentioned it in my chances threads, but do you think that will make it slightly harder for me?

What is ckmets method?

it does make it slightly harder being from such a competitive area. For example, NoVa has out of state acceptance rates to UVA. Colleges cant take so many from one area, so consequently areas with more applicants per capita to top schools will see acceptance rates decline.

OOS acceptance rates?
that really killed my chances

Even with the supposedly OOS rates, TJ has sent 531 kids to UVA over the past four years

yeah, but that's TJ! my school has only sent like 35ish in the last 4 years.

Is Fredericksburg considered NoVA?

Fredricksburg isn't really NoVA; I don't think. What county are you in???

any more opinions??
