This Playbill article seems like a thread that would be on this forum!

I was reading this article in Playbill this morning and immediately thought of CC's MT Forum. The article lists the colleges each of the cast and creative team attended from the new Broadway musical, Big Fish. It would fit right into this forum as it reminds me of many thread discussions here! :D

Schools of the Stars: Where Big Fish Cast and Creators Went to College - Playbill.com

PS, I haven't seen Big Fish, though my daughter was given a free ticket by Andrew Lippa recently to see it and so she did.

Just to add…the talented ensemble consisted of graduates of Baldwin Wallace (she graduated in 2013!), North Carolina School of the Arts and Point Park, among others.

D saw a preview of Big Fish and described it as “classic Susan Stroman”, so I assume there are at least some fun dance numbers. It is interesting to see where its creators studied.

This is a bit OT, but I just poked around the PlaybillEDU site mentioned in the article, and in my opinion it starts off making what I’ve come to consider one of the biggest mistakes people make when creating school lists – choosing up front between a BFA or a BA.

In my experience, some of the very best BA-like programs are actually BFA’s (e.g. UMich), while some of the best BFA-like programs are actually BAs (e.g. Northwestern), so if you decide up front to look at only one or the other you may very well rule out the program that would fit you best.

Has anyone looking for schools used PlaybillEDU, and if so what did you think?

I’m a junior and I just started using Playbill EDU. I like it because it’s very convenient, but it can sometimes be vague. A lot of info is there, but not all. I gave up on their advanced search thing for the reason you mentioned. I don’t want to search only for a certain degree/location/whatever because that would likely rule out other great programs. However, the “name search” option has been quite useful and I will likely continue to use it through senior year :)

@abigailmorris - It’s great to hear that you’ve found a good way to make use of their system! I didn’t have much time to poke around in it, but I quickly tried a name search on “Northwestern” and it brought up a Christian college somewhere rather than Northwestern University, so I didn’t get a chance to see how accurate it is for a program I know a bit about.

I wonder if reps from any of the programs are checking it to see if it reflects their schools properly.
