When does stuff begin and stuff end? What's the range (that is date to date approximately) for summer vacation?

Classes started on Monday, March 27th. Normally, the quarter lasts nine weeks, though profs ocassionally might extend it a bit if they need to cancel a class.

all the way to 2016, just in case it takes you that long to graduate.

It just might.........

Don't laugh. At the graduate level I was there for 15 years (the record for my area was, and probably still is, 27 years).

well, graduate school is different, seeing how a lot of people have jobs and careers while they are in school

I loved the place, they had to pry me out with a crowbar.

ahh.. having just one month of 'summer holiday' as compared to the usual 2+months i get now doesnt look attractive...

what? summer is still like 3 months.

I mean, yeah....1 month summers will suck, don't go.

I wasn't waitlisted.

I thought it was a 3 quarter system....meaning the spring quarter ends in June (june 9 ish) and then we start up again in late september.

wait, so am i getting confused or something????

I'm pretty sure we could all use some clarifying.

Idad?

It's a 3-quarter system. You can take either 3 or 4 courses per quarter, and it will cost you the same price. So in 4 years, you can end up with a maximum 48 quarter courses (assuming no summer quarters). You can opt for summer quarters in addition, but I don't believe you'll receive financial aid for them.

Nerj, summers will still be about 3 months, but chicago typically starts classes in mid to late september, a little later than most colleges.

Sounds bangin'.

OH!!!!!!! ok, thats great then.. hahaha sorry for my stupidity in understanding it.

A full academic year is considered three quarters, autumn, winter, & spring. Spring quarter this year ends June 10th. Autumn Quarter begins September 25th. (Unless one is a first year, then Oweek begins Sept 16th.) This is over 3 months of summer vacation.

One can choose to go summer quarter, but most don't. Summer quarter begins June 19 and ends Aug 26 this year.

Your wisdom proves ever useful, idad.

Gracias.

I know some junior classics majors that took Beginning Greek over the past summer. Summer courses prove useful if one is "behind" in one's major- or simply wants to cut back on courses during the school year. I have heard that money for summer courses for college students is scarce, though, but there are language-specific scholarships.

Off topic, but . . .

Esquared, I was so glad to see that you were accepted to the U. of C. Congrats!!! Will you be attending?

That's the plan.

Yeah, I dunno what you all are talking about.... spring quarter ends, next year, June 9th, and fall quarter starts on Sep. 19, so summer is actually pretty long
