This took a REALLY long time to type, so please chance me?

Long story short, I THOUGHT I was in good shape for college admissions. But about a week ago, I accidentally discovered this site and I’ve been reading the “what are my chances” threads kind of a lot. My opinions are altered and at the moment, I have no idea which of the schools I’m applying to this year will take me.

Can someone help/chance?

Universities I plan to send applications to: (in no particular order)

University of Southern California
UC-Riverside
Arizona State University
University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (triple legacy)
University of Wisconsin-Madison
Emerson College
Cal Poly-SLO
University of Michigan-Ann Arbor

Possibly:
Stanford University
UCLA

Anyways.. If I could be updated (or informed for the first time, i guess) on where I stand for these schools, that'd be awesome.

-Cody

:O
“junior 2.9ish”

^ That is terrible for a junior.
Your GPA/SAT/ACT/AP/Course Rigor is terrible.

Your internship seems sort of unique.
No one cares about NHS/40 hours of community service.

I suggest focusing on your passion.
Your academics are just too bad to be reconciled with anything but that.
You lack any significant awards.

Perhaps your varied varsity sports will be good?

Anyways…
Stanford: Exosphere
UCLA: High Reach
UM: Reach
UW Madison: Reach
U of I: Low Match/Safety
ASU: Match
UC Riverside: Match
USC: High Match

^ Junior was actually 3.176

I calculated.

It’s just that STUPID rank that’s gonna kill me later down the road…

ur list is balanced…
University of Southern California-reach
UC-Riverside-safety
Arizona State University-safety
University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (triple legacy)-safety
University of Wisconsin-Madison-reach
Emerson College-match
Cal Poly-SLO-safety
University of Michigan-Ann Arbor-far reach

the only thing is that you have a downdward trend…which is the worst thing to see…

OK, I dont wan’t to be “that guy who doesn’t listen to anyone,” but for real, is Illinois really a safety? My parents talk to me about college as if UIUC is the only college in the world (since they both went there), but I’ve always thought my rank would kind of abominate my chances there. I mean, most of the kids there were top 10%.

Is it the triple legacy that makes it a safety?

Your course load seems decent for the schools to which you’re applying, but as you said, your rank/GPA will hurt you a lot. 212/501 is barely top 50% and the majority of people applying to these schools are going to be in at least the top 20%.

Retake your standardized tests. I would also recommend emphasizing your jobs/sports for EC’s over your clubs. Job experience is valued more highly than most people think, and being on three varsity sports teams shows a lot of ability and dedication.

bump .

You have similar stats to what I do and Ive done my own independent research on sites other than just collegeconfidential where its impossible for people like us to get realistic chances. based on eduers and world review and college toolkit here are the chances.

University of Southern California- high reach
UC-Riverside- match-ish
Arizona State University- safety
University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (triple legacy)- slight reach. State school, legacy not that big.
University of Wisconsin-Madison- slight reach
Emerson College- sorry cant contribute here
Cal Poly-SLO -safety
University of Michigan-Ann Arbor- high reach (numbers game)

Possibly:
Stanford University(no)
UCLA(no)

the only ones Id say dont bother with would be UCLA and stanford.
good luck, Ive been doing speech as well for four years though.

last bump.

no offense but your GPA and rank are horrible, as is your ap chem score (your semester grade of A- means nothing if you got a 1, because it just shows that your school heavily inflates grades. the 1 will mean more than the A-) your ec’s are pretty good and the only thing bringing up your dismal academic record. but if i were you, I wouldn’t mention the job at target, key club or NHS since they’re pretty insignificant/ short lived/ you hold no leadership position

Stanford? Are you sh***ing me? The rest of the schools you have an OK shot in. UMICH ann arbor and UWIS Madison are pretty tough to get into…

What are your SAT II scores?

There are + to your profile that will make you stand out=cc classes, work experience, internship experience(in possible field=this shows passion/interest), extracurricular involvement.

The - are the gpa, class rank, and possible SATs(if you’re aiming for schools like stanford).

Have you considered looking at liberal arts colleges? Pitzer for example has a joint program between the other Claremont schools. They are a school who is SAT/Scores optional. [Welcome to the Media Studies Website](http://www.pitzer.edu/academics/field_groups/media_studies/)
Occidental College in Los Angeles, also has a film and media studies major. I think both these schools would be able to offer some of the opportunities in the industry because of their location and reputation. They may not be UCLA or USC film, but they are still notable schools and could be a match/low reach for you.

Also I forget if its FSU or University of Florida which has strong film as well.
UCI also has a film studies major if I remember correctly.

Come on, let a guy dream. =]

I misunderstood and thought that if you were a California resident applying to UC’s, had all the A-G requirements, and had a GPA of 3.4+, you didn’t have to take SAT II’s. And I can’t really wait until October to take them. Does this all around abolish my chances of getting into UC’S?

I still kind of want an answer to the question in my previous post. I can’t find anything about exceptions on the website.
