i sent in my application for early decision and i don't know how i can stand to wait any longer! AHHH!!! i know dartmouth will notify us by dec 15th but how many days earlier do they usually notify us by? do they notify us by email and then by mail? i am getting irritated

You have roughly a full month. They get back to you anywhere from 3 to 5 days before the 15th, via bannerstudent.

I know what you mean. I actually made myself a countdown calendar, (where you rip off a page each day), because I'm THAT neurotic at this point. (I've been waiting for this for 12 years, in my defense...)

its like waiting for SAT scores except 12321 times worse

Hopefully, all the 13 ED applicants have kept their chances in perspective. Those of you that are not legacies, athletes, or have serious hooks should be prepared to be declined or deferred. You should try to be getting your other applications ready in case of this fact. The last thing you want is to be depressed and not prepared for your other applications which will be due by the end of December. Try to spend some time getting those done. Also, stay attuned to your classwork as the first semester will be factored in to any regular decision applications. Finally, enjoy your Senior year. Spend time with friends and enjoy time with them and family. Next year will come too fast and before you know it you will gone from your little insulated environment. Remember that there is a great college that is waiting to open a whole new world of knowledge, experience, and friendship. If it is not Dartmouth then it will another great school.

^I know. I have no hook, and therefore will be rejected, so I'm resignedly filling out my stuff for my other schools. It's a very depressing process.

^ Hey don't get yourself down. I looked up your ED Chance and your numbers are very good. I bet you have a good chance. Your numbers are similar to the great majority of those accepted. It is going to come down to your essay, teacher rec's, and peer review. If you have a chance to see your teacher rec's you might feel better about your chances.

Definitely keep up your grades... I had really good 1st semester grades and then ended up getting in after being deferred!

what is bannerstudent?
and why worry at this point, all you can do is done...

Thanks, Redondo Dave. Yeah, I kept my 1st quarter grades up, (all A's and an A+), and my stats are OK. As for my recs, I've seen all of them, including the peer evaluation. Personally, I think they're good, but I have nothing to compare them to, and I don't know exactly what the admissions officers are looking for. I'm worried about my essay- I think I came off as too sure about what I want to do for a profession. Also, while my stats are pretty average for a Dartmouth student, I think as a non-hooked kid I'll be held up to higher standards.

You're reading so much more into your situation than the adcoms are going to. A B versus an A isn't going to make or break you at this point. Dartmouth wants people who will add to their community;if it feels that you are a good fit, you'll be accepted. If not, well.. that's too bad, but there are plenty of other good schools out there. Dartmouth is my first choice as well and I am applying ED, so I understand the paranoia. We'll find out soon enough. Whether that happens to be on December 12th or 15th shouldn't really matter, so just relax and enjoy your senior year. :)
