Those were the phil profs.

(I am good at jokes)

haaahahahahahaha

Wow, I can be a pretty confronational person in certain situations but if someone starts s*** with me in Berkeley, I am going to walk the f*** away.

@fijee
or at least shank them first

itchy23: Sorry, thats what I meant to say. If someone starts s*** with me in Berkeley, i’m going to shank them and just walk the f*** away.

**** yeah fijee-
im not letting a bunch of yuppies and guys with shopping carts scare me away!

Good thing i’m not going to UCB…cause if i was in some of these situations that have been described, i would’ve probably started a fight. and apparently it would have been my fists against their knife or gun…

It’s threads like these that make me thankful I didn’t apply to Berkeley. Feel free to keep posting your scary encounters in the fall. I will read them while I am sipping my latte in Westwood. ;)

yeah while you spend three hours going 5 blocks for that latte, you can enjoy LA’s complimentary burning sensation in your lungs.

:)

^ why three hours going five blocks? Walking doesn’t exist? D:

Have fun buddy, the city around UCB is a dump. That’s probably the most miniscule assault you need to worry about lol.

The area surrounding Berkeley may not be as safe as Westwood but as long as you use common sense and are aware of your surroundings, you will be fine. You don’t hear about Berkeley students getting killed every week. Don’t get into altercations with people, just let it go. Berkeley is a world renowned institution and I for one consider myself lucky to have the opportunity to go to school there. I made it out of Iraq just fine, I have no worries about Berkeley.

Seriously though, it’s really not as bad as all that. I haven’t had any real problems here. But then again I have lived in cities all my life and definitely have common sense and always keep aware of my surroundings (this includes not walking and talking on my cell or listening to my iPod). Of course it probably also helps that I’m 6’6" (of course that just probably makes me a bigger target) :)

@Ek: I may be ugly and hate-filled, but I am far from bitter.

6’6??? Good lord, you play bball for Cal or what?

fijeeboi, nope. I used to play football before I blew out my knee (pre Cal though). I weigh in at about 280. (just means I can’t run too fast from knife wielding assailants)

Barring the last two weeks, of course.

Bitter-sweet, maybe?

Ek: The shooting death did not involve a Berkeley student.

To the OP:

Wow. Just wow. For what it’s worth, you were entirely justified in your outrage and asking for the old man to be ejected from the establishment. I don’t care how “hippy liberal” they are over there in California; physical assault is an unacceptable violation of your rights.

Now you wait just a second. Don’t go pinning Berkeley’s crazy on the rest of us
