^ Shut up hippie.

would cal still be as liberal if you had splashed coffee in the bums face
and then punched his nose? What if you claimed you were doing it
as protest against deforestation?

Berkeley people would respond in super-liberal fashion and persecute you for your hate crimes against the homeless

omg at top dog?
isn’t that like less than 5mins walk from unit 2?
i was just there last summer =.=

hmm u no what just bring an umbrella wherever u go. if those hobos come too close u just go *poke poke

AHHAHAHA and try to pretend u learn fencing or smth… u know that twirling of the sword
=D thats cool

bums should remember their most powerful weapon is their stench

Bums remind me of hamsters, both are able to make great use of newspapers for their homes… Plus, some of them are biters, so watch out!

dont get me wrong, i feel compassion for people who have been dealt a ****ty hand and are forced to the streets for a time… and I especially feel for the homeless who have mental illness…

what i despise though are the militant homeless kids that sit there with 5 pets, taking up an entire sidewalk and sneering at anyone who doesn’t give them change----get ***'d

Guardianangel, Top Dog is like a 2 minute walk to Unit 2. I pass by it every day on my way home. Weird.

If anyone’s interested in an update, here it is:

I have decided to go the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill. It really came down to UCLA, UCSD, and UNC. I have always regarded UCB as a great school, but the environment is totally not me. This wasn’t the first incident I encountered and, if I had enrolled, surely wouldn’t have been the last. It’s really a shame because I have a lot of friends there and the transition would have been easier. But after thinking about it, no amount of support would have made it possible for me to stay and spend 2 years of my life there. I really believe that UCB and the city gets a bad rap for good reason-- because it’s true. Best of luck to those planning on attending UCB.

i would feel safer if the dorms allowed weapons…
i mean who knows
while i was at unit 2… a piece of window 2 feet in length and width fell probably 4 feet away from where i was…
i was balancing on the railings of the stairs thats why the glass fragments didn’t get me

scary yes…
worth the risk? iono
but i’ll bring a ballistic vest to class… a bulletproof when i go out…
should keep me somewhat safe…

Wow, I sometimes forget how sheltered, if not isolated, people can be.

Ek, well, Berkeley’s definitely not for everyone. I mean, I live at Unit 2 and it’s right across the street from People’s Park. When I moved in they actually had a seminar for new residents on the homeless situation in the city.

i’ll be at unit 2 this summer T - T booooo

It is funny how some people think Berkeley is a bad area… to me it is really nice. Yes there are lots of homeless people, but it is a very desirable place to live. Sometimes they will **** with you, but that just makes living there interesting and unique. Berkeley (and SF) is open to everyone, and that is a trade off. I think it is worth it to deal with a homeless person every once in a while (its fun) in order to live in a thriving, interesting and exciting community.

Learning how to deal with these situations is an important life skill anyways… you can’t always go to a store manager and ask him to solve all your problems.

Get some perspective and go up to Richmond or down to Oakland and then see if you still think that UCB is in a bad neighborhood…

So people messing with you is unique and interesting? That’s not what I call a friendly environment, especially if I’m paying that much for an education. I have spent summers in Oakland and some more dubious places, but at least homeless guys won’t incessantly be bothering you. Sure, you may get shot in Oakland, but it’s a pretty good trade off (I kid, sorta). Honestly, the school is great but the surrounding environment-- not so much. I have nothing against homeless people. but just don’t invade my personal space or verbally harrass me. When I’m walking down the street, I don’t expect to be called names or have my day just completely messed up by some homeless guy (which has happened on a few occasions). I’m convinced that my 2 years there would be filled with anger and resentment, which is not a great way to spend my formative years.

Btw, I asked the store manager because the old guy was harrassing some girl as well. I, for one, am not obligated to ensure a safe environment for the store’s customers. It’s the job of the store manager to solve any problems. If I wanted to solve it my way, the old guy would be looking for a new cane. But I’m reasonable so I figured the most prudent approach would be to tell someone in charge. Does that make me some sort of sissie or tattletale? Don’t answer that! :)

If you get bit by a homeless guy do you need to get a rabies shot?

If you get bitten by any human being and it draws blood you should get checked stat. Human mouths are filthy. :D

Wow, bums have teeth? I learn something new everyday. I would have thought at most they have a tooth. :)

Trippss: From what I hear, the area around UNC Chapel Hill isn’t the greatest either.

A bum on Shattuck called my gf and I yuppies last weekend. He was begging for change while ranting right at us that there are too many yuppies in Berkeley now and it’s just not the same.

I had to agree with him though…I think Berkeley does in fact need less clean cut, beautiful women like my fiance, and more bums like him begging for change. There clearly aren’t enough like him there.
