This will be funny, but I'm prepared for the truth.

hi, I'm a senior in CA wondering about my shot at ND.

here are the stats:

ACT: 31

AP's: Span- 5 Eng- 4 US History- 3

GPA:3.38

ECs listed on app: football, track, was in 2 clubs, and work; and a lot of community service too

Job/Work Experience: did finances that were really receipts at a family friend's company and also had a job there too

Essays (subject and responses): already started so they should be very good- on two hardships that have come down on me the last 2 years, and my dealing w/ them.

Teacher Recs: better than great

Counselor Rec: great

School Type: Private, does not rank

Ethnicity: Hispanic

Gender:M

Also: Took 3 summer courses at a local comm. college

thanks so much

Everyone has a shot... Apply

no i know, but i'm just thinking my shot is very very slim.

I wouldn't rule it out. Maybe you could try taking the SAT. A few more APs wouldn't hurt. Do you have any leadership roles?

I think the biggest thing you can do right now is worth on your GPA and class rank. I agree, it looks like it is going to be a long-shot, but it is still worth applying if ND is where you really want to go. Good luck!

um well not many leadership roles other than helping start an american cancer division in our school this year.

My daughter was waitlisted (and never got off) a couple of years ago with a much better GPA and a better test score. I would think you are a long shot, but ND is harder for girls than boys. Better have a back-up plan.

Wait, I thought it would easier for girls to get in because isn't ND student body slightly more male, like 53/47 or do just more boys apply than girls?

I believe more girls apply for fewer spots - as is true with most schools.

Slight correction - more girls apply as at most schools. However, at most schools, there are more spots for girls than boys.

My son was also wait-listed two years ago with higher GPA and more ECs including leadership activities and more service. I agree it's a long-shot.

If you haven't taken the SAT or ACT, definitely take one or I don't think that they will even consider you for admission.

The Hispanic Ethnicity should really help though (gracias a Dios) since Notre Dame has many "hispanics" who look more irish that latino. If you are a fluent Spanish speaker, try to mention that too, it'll make you even more of a minority and up your chances. =)

It depends. If you are disadvantaged Latino I say go for it but do try for good test scores. If your parents are immigrants and not educated you really do have a shot, not guaranteed but remember ND's mission is educating the sons of immigrants. They are serious about this so do not discount it. If you worked out of economic necessity rather than doing activities that will be something in your favor.

If you are just a rich kid with a 3.4 and a Hispanic heritage to claim then I think you should consider another school.
