So what are peoples' thoughts about what the acceptance rate of this years Kenyon freshmen class? If they had 36% last year, and expect a much larger number of applicants this year, I'm curious to know. Also, does anyone know if Kenyon is quick to reject students they've already accepted based on poor second semester grades? Mine aren't terrible, but I'm still a little worried about the possibility. Any stats on that? Thanks.

This is from a Kenyon webpage addressing the issue of gender and admissions, but I think it will also help answer some of your questions.

This year Kenyon received 4,248 applications

* 2,400 women (56.5 percent)
* 1,848 men (43.5 percent)

We admitted 1,371 students

* We admitted 761 women -- 55.5 percent of the total
* We admitted 610 men -- 44.5 percent of the total

Having admitted 1,371 students of 4,248 applicants, our admissions rate was 32.3 percent overall.

* The admissions rate for female applicants was 31.7 percent
* The admissions rate for male applicants was 33 percent

How do the SAT scores for men admitted to Kenyon compare to those of women?

The men we admit tend to have higher math scores and the women have higher critical-reading scores. The difference in the numbers is almost negligible. Here are the specifics:

SAT Critical Reading Scores

Average score for applicant pool: 666
Average score for admitted students: 694

Average male applicant score: 659
Average admitted male score: 681

Average female applicant score: 670
Average admitted female score: 705

SAT Math Scores

Average score for applicant pool: 643
Average score for admitted students: 670

Average male applicant score: 655
Average admitted male score: 675

Average female applicant score: 634
Average admitted female score: 665

Awesome, thanks. Howabout the second part of my question?

How were your first semester grades?

My first semester grades were about 3.2 unweighted, but it's probably the most competetive high school in the state. I only mention that to help with the weighting. That's about on par with my academic rating throughout highschool.

weird, so do they just admit way more students than they have places for? Because I got a letter saying they had over 4,000 applicants for about 400 spots in the class. colleges are misleading

^ No school has a 100% yield so they have to accept more students than they have spaces for.

Colleges' publications are always misleading - something I come to know about only after the whole admissions process. But that does not mean they are lying. It's just the way they manipulate datas and their approach to it.

Yeh, I think Harvard's yield is only 78% actually. Quite high, but not perfect. To think people turn down Harvard, then again I probably would because Boston is lame...

I would totally reject harvard

if you would totally reject harvard, why wud u apply in the first place?

^^LOLs... Chochu... you havent reply me... but take your time. =)

my fault entirely man...i m really sorry. its been hectic. i ll get back to you soon.
sorry!
