can we assume that we were accepted in the major that we chose? because the acceptance letter didn't say exactly what major we got accepted into, it just said what college/school we got into. i don't want to go there the first day of school, and they're like, oh yea, you're in a different major...didn't you know? lol.

Well you have two years to decide a major, unless you are a bio major. At the beginning of the school year you'll get together with an advisor who will tell you what is the recommended schedule in order to complete your desired major in the 8 semesters at Cornell. I don't think you have to worry about it now because they won't make you change majors, especially since you haven't taken any of the courss yet.

While this comes as a shock to most engineering students -- you do not actually have a major in the College of Engineering until you affiliate with Department/major. To affiliate with a department/major you must first have completed certain classes in the major with a min GPA -- the courses and mins vary widely by major.

Most students affiliate in Fall of sophomore year. Students can be denied entry into a major -- but you can retry. Basically getting denied means your GPA isn't good enough to survive the next (harder) 5 semesters.

Do not worry about this yet! It's very very far off for you!

I think only CALS applicants are accepted to specific majors... but I'm not 100% sure

I think only CALS applicants are accepted to specific majors... but I'm not 100% sure

That is correct. CALS applicants had to apply to a specific major.

Then how difficult is it then to internally transfer from CALS to CAS with a major in Econ? My daughter was acccepted into CALS( BIO ENVIRONMENTAL engineering) and has complete disdain for APBio, thus the change of heart.
