Those "Average" Stats

What are the average stats of a gal/guy in [your?] high school? Not YOUR stats, cause we all know those aren't average at all!

My school:

3.7 W/3.0 UW
SAT: 1600s
ACT: no one really takes these at my school but probably 24
Sports: at least 1 or 2
One or two clubs, no leadership positions
Average courses, usually just one AP during high school and a couple honors classes each term/year

Can't think of much else cause my school isn't particularly average.

My school is very poor, 88% of the student body lives in homes under the poverty line, so my school has two very different extremes. We have students that are high achievers and understand that the only way to get out of our area is through college. On the other hand, there are kids that have family troubles or have no support and therefore aren’t able to focus on their grades. ‘‘Average’’ is really hard to calculate based on this because I know very few students who are just ‘‘average’’ students, they’re either very good students or they aren’t.

unweighted : 3.2 SAT: idk Sports: we have a lot of sports soccer, basketball, volleyball, track, etc. Clubs: a lot as well average - higher classes, for the % of kids who take ap they usually take avg 2 or 3

Unweighted: 3.5/ Weighted: 3.8-4.2
SAT: 1900+
ACT: Not sure
Sports: Cross country, volleyball, basketball, water polo, swimming, track and field,
Clubs : we have around 15 or more
Average courses: There’s two type of student bodies we have : those who want to pursue a career an those who are forced to be there. Most of the ones who are forced to be there take normal classes. Those who want to pursue a career usually enroll in all honors/ AP courses and our school does offer IB.
Our school usually encourages one Honors/AP course before we graduate.

My school usually gets a lot of hate because theres bad influences or its “bad school” but its mostly some of the students that attend. MY school is the only school who offeres the IB program in the whole district yet they tend to go to other schools because of the type students that attend here.

GPA: No clue

SAT: few people take but I’m guessing ~1750 is normal

ACT: 23-25 on the first attempt seems to be pretty much the standard

Sports: 1 is pretty normal, though 2’s not uncommon (especially Cross-Country & Track, though Soccer & Track or Baseball is pretty common as well)

Clubs: 1 or 2 per kid’s somewhat common

Course Load: 3 levels (General, CP, Honors/AP) with General being the easiest and Honors (obviously) the hardest. Most freshmen start out in at least 2 CP classes, though some take all of one level. Dropping levels is easier, but moving up a level is common in all subjects but math. Religion, lunch, and homeroom are all required, as are two years of a foreign language (which is when most kids quit). We have 8 periods, and lunch & homeroom are combined into one. A semester of health & 2 of PE and a full year of art have to fit in, too, though all can be taken over the summer; if sports are played, they can be used to get out of PE.

The “Average Joe” at my school:

GPA: 3.2 [mostly B’s with an A in freshman science to switch from General to CP Bio, plus some others in there as well (probably)]
SAT: 1740
ACT: 25

FRESHMAN
CP English 9
Physical Science
CP Algebra 1 A
Lunch/Homeroom
CP World Cultures
Spanish 1
Religion 9
Art 1

SOPHOMORE
CP English 10
CP Biology
CP Geometry A
Homeroom/Lunch
CP American Studies
Religion 10
Spanish 2
Study Hall

JUNIOR
CP English 11
CP Chemistry A
CP Algebra 2 A

Lunch/Homeroom
Religion 11
Study Hall
Spanish 3

SENIOR
CP Government/CP Sociology
CP English 12: Global Literature
CP Precalc
Culinary Arts 1/Health
Homeroom/Lunch
Religion 12: Church History/Christian Lifestyles
CP Physics
Study Hall

ECs: Key Club & Track (each all 4 years)

TL;DR good enough to get into local public or Catholic university, but not anything super-standoutish

Unweighted: 3.1282 (86.282 on a 100 point scale median)/ No Weighted
SAT: 1721
ACT: 24.4
Sports: I think most people don’t do a sport, maybe a bit over half, but we have Rugby, Baseball, Football, Golf, Soccer, Hockey, Basketball, Swimming, Boxing (Not a competing sport, I think, just intramural, possibly?), Track and Field, Wrestling, Bowling, Lacrosse, and Tennis, lots of sports. Rugby is good on a national and maybe international scale, football is pretty good, I think bowling and hockey are good, and Track and Field is good.
I bet most people do one or two clubs, and obviously the average student doesn’t have a leadership position.
333 students took 540 exams last year out of a school of about 1100 students.

Average GPA: UW: 3.37 (ish? I calculated weirdly; it may be a bit higher)/no weighted
SAT: 1990
ACT: 30.4

We have 107 NMSFs in the Class of 2015 (~530 people).

Sports: most popular sports are Badminton, Cross Country, Track, and Swimming; we also have Football, Cheer, Water Polo, Golf, Soccer, Volleyball, Basketball, Wrestling, Tennis, Baseball, and Softball.

Clubs: Quite a few people (around half?) have leadership positions in clubs/ECs; most do 2-3 clubs + side activities (sports, school plays, band, etc.)

10% of the school is in Band, and there are more in Orchestra.

Our AP test pass rate is 94.4%; ~2300 tests are taken a year by 966 students (or maybe it’s 966 students in AP classes? which adds around 75 students to the list who haven’t taken an AP class but still take a test)/2300.

Our average scores for SAT subject tests include a 748 in Math II, a 767 in Chinese-L, a 765 in Physics, a 740 in Chem, and a 724 in Bio-M.

The class the GPA was taken from was not our brightest (not by far), by the way. In fact, they were far below average for my school.

UW - ~3.0
SAT ~ 1500
no one knows what the ACT is.

AT LEAST 40% of the student body regularly do drugs AND drink.
AT LEAST 50% of the student body have never taken an honors or AP course.
About 10% of the graduating class doesn’t go on to college.
Only about 35% of the study body play sports
Only about 8% of the study body are in clubs

I’m not religious and my school’s community service club consists of about 4 people. It’s really hard to find community service options…!

I’m the co-captain of yearbook and I’m a sophomore… yesterday I was the only one to show up…and we have the two coolest teachers in school as advisers…!

There are only 2 periods of AP Bio, and we have 500+ people as sophomores (only 10th graders take bio)

It’s super hard to fit in multiple AP classes into your schedule.

It’s a really hard to build up a resume here…!

My school offers few aps, but some honor classes. The same people take honor classes and it’s rare for a average student to take an honor class or ap class. Most kids at my school go through their HS career without ever taking a challenging course. That being said the average is:

gpa: 3.0 or lower Weighted: None
SAT: 1400 or lower
Few people take the ACT at my school.
Many people do sports at my school, so I’d bet the average student does that.

Not sure about grades
SAT: 1600
ACT: 22
Sports: none
A lot of club participation by the same people…not so much by the whole school

SAT: The school counselor said the average is in the 1800’s, but she also mentioned that the scores were at two extremes (very high or very low lol)
Sports: Eh, some people play basketball and some play soccer. The rest of our sports are nonexistent.
Most people participate in a good number of clubs, but the same few hold leadership positions in all of them lol.

Wow, most of you guys go to great schools by the looks of those stats.

GPA: ~3.0 (like an 80 average on a 100 point scale)
SAT: ~1490s to 1500
ACT: 23ish
Sports: we don’t have sports, but the home schools do. You occasionally hear talk about football or soccer
Schedule: Usually a mix of “honors classes” (they’re actually very easy) and regular classes. A couple of APs sprinkled about but they usually drop out of the class (my school likes to shove as many people as they can in AP to make the school look good despite the fact that less than 30% pass the exam on average).

Clubs: Usually, people participate in a club throughout high school but are only members and hardly do anything. There are maybe 15-20% of people actively engaged.

In my school, some people say excietdly, “I’m only failing two classes!” ONLY failing… sigh failing classes is the norm in my school, but somehow they get their average up to just passing. The kids at my school do barely enough to pass and move on. You hear a lot of, “Ugh, I don’t want to do anything,” and “because I’m lazy!” and then they giggle as if that’s enough justification for their low scores. A few of us throughout the years actually cared about our grades. Now senior year, people are scrambling to haul up their GPAs.

Lol my school is just super-rich. AKA almost everybody goes to thousand-dollar test prep to study for the SATs (unless they’re actually really really smart) and gets tutored for subjects they’re doing “okay” in. Therefore, our averages are really high.

@Gallory people say the same thing at my school… Except, depending on the person you’re talking to, failing is generally somewhere from a solid B to a solid C (at worst). Below that is almost unacceptable (unless you’re one of the faux-popular kids who try to act like they’re all that and would probably be considered wannabees at other schools). Half the people have given up on good grades (especially in some classes) and the other half get semi-okay grades but honestly have stopped caring.

As far as I know, these are my school’s average stats:
Grades: I think that the average is around 3.6 unweighted
SAT and ACT: I have no clue at all, sorry.
Sports: Everyone plays at least one sport; most people play two.
Schedule: In English, most people take English 9, English 10 Honors, English 11 Honors, and then English 12.
In Math, most people take Geometry, Algebra II Honors, Precalculus Honors, then AP Calculus AB or BC.
In History, most people take Ancient and Medieval History, Europe and the Modern Word, and US History.
In a forgein language, most people take the second level, third level, and the fourth level of the language of their choice.
In Science, most people take Biology, Chemistry, AP Biology or Chemistry, the either Physics or Physics Honors.
In know for a fact that the average AP test scores for people who take AP classes is between 4 and 5.
Clubs: We have a lot of clubs concidering our school’s size (there are at least 25 and we’re a small school) but the average student will not be involved in a club.

Average stats (I’m talking average, not like smart kid average) I don’t go to a competitive school

GPA: 3.0 (UW) maybe like 3.1 Weighted.
SAT Average: Probably 1450 if they even take it. (Most kids go to either JC or no college at all after they graduate)

ACT Average: No idea, probably like a 22-23.

Courses
Math: They take up to Algebra II
English: They take 4 years of English, probably core English.
History: They take World History, US History (Sometimes AP), and Civics/Econ
Science: They take Biology for life science and either APES, Earth Science or Chemistry for physical science.
Foreign Language: Take 1-2 years of Spanish.
Sports/Clubs: I can’t really say what the average person does. More than half of the school probably is involved in neither, but there are still a lot of athletes at our school.
